Post by Myd-Nyt on Sun Jul 13, 2008 10:16 am

Since the world is a changin I thought I'd start this here talkin session so's regular folks could have a place ter get some straight answers.

Now some of us were teached at home by our ma n' pa and wurnt sent off fer no fancy book learnin by strangers, those of ye wut were can keep yer snickerin to yerselves.
(maybe yer folks just couldn't stand ye and were glad ter see ye go)

When I got this here all figured out I plans ter do it meself so's folks will know it works, that way any new adventurers can just do wut I done.

Here we go . . .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Last Updated: March 20, 2012 (by The Amethyst Dragon)

1) Install main game Neverwinter Nights.
a) Install expansion Shadows of Undrentide.
b) Install expansion Hordes of the Underdark.

There are also two compilation box sets available Neverwinter Nights “Platinum” & “Diamond” either one of them may be used as they each contain the main game and both expansions.

2) Patch (update) your game to version 1.69

Here is a link detailing your two available options regarding this step.

http://www.neverwinternights.info/players.htm#critpatch

2a) If you downloaded your NWN game from gog.com, you may want to run the critical rebuilt patch, just to make sure there are no missing files.

3) Download & Install: Community Expansion Pack version 2.4 (CEP2.4)
- See here for the basic installation instructions.

4) Download & Install: World of Aenea Files into your hak and tlk directories/folders.

Direct File Download:
Spoiler:
a) PLAYERPACK_AUG_2011 file contains these needed files:

aeneahak_updates.hak
aeneahak_q.hak
aeneahak_r.hak
aeneahak_s.hak
aeneahak_t.hak
aeneahak_u.hak
aeneahak_v.hak
aeneahak_w.hak
aeneahak_x.hak
aeneahak_y.hak
aeneahak_z.hak
aenea.tlk

All ".hak" files go into your NWN/hak folder.

The "aenea.tlk" file goes into your NWN/tlk folder. If you don't have one, just make one and put the file in it.

After installing, go back and download the latest ______aeneahak updates file and ______aenea tlk files for updated content. Install them over top of the PLAYERPACK content so that your versions are up to date.

5) Optional: Download and install Community Music Pack (bmu files only) into your NWN/music directory.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I done wut were writ down here and it all worked.

Ye can find me adventurin somewhere in Aenea happy as an ogre in a turnip patch.

Up Yer Tankard!

Not certain if this is correct, but currently the Vault instructions say to get both Player Patch files, which is what I did. Is this correct? If so, the instructions above may wish to include this info.

And thanks for keeping all of this simple. Smile

Also, the link to this step by step guide on the 'downloads page' of the website... it could maybe be a little bigger and easier to notice... fairly easily missed. Had to look a bit before I spotted it.

EDIT: any ideas why the underdark tileset is not displaying properly? got spots that have no textures.... everything else seems to show up just fine.... just that one tileset....

Post by Elhanan on Thu Feb 03, 2011 8:14 am

Quick Question: I believe I have the correct file, as well as the CEP Updater, but am having difficulty knowing how to open and/or extracting them. For instance, I attempted to use 7Zip to Extract the files, but they simply opened in the file where I keep all my saved Haks; not the NWN1 files.

After you stop laughing at my illuminating illustration as to why I say I am Techless, help would be appreciated. Thanks!

when you double click the archive you downloaded, 7zip should open and show you what is inside the archive. You highlight what you want to extrack with a left click, and then click the extract button at the top. At this point, 7zip should ask you to specify where you want the extracted files to go. You can use the browse button to navigate to the correct folder. When you click OK, it does the job.

At what point in this process, specificly, are things going oddly for you?

Post by Elhanan on Fri Feb 04, 2011 9:09 am

Because this beastly piece of Tech will not self-install for whatever reason, I am forced to copy all files manually, and that takes time; all morning copying, and deleting incorrect files, and this is not the first time since I have reobtained the game. And it appears I have to do the same with the Aenea files too, as the 7Zip thing-a-ma-bob does not work correctly, and will not run it.

It simply should not take a Techie like yourself to help another gamer to install a game that is over a decade old to a new system.

I realllllly hate Tech.....

P.S. Not mad at anyone, but me; in a world of high Tech RPG's, I am an Etch-A-Sketch.....

Im sorry youre so frustrated, but.... you didnt answer my question. I cant help unless I know exactly what point in the process things are not working correctly, and what happens instead of the expected behavior.

Does 7zip open the archive when you double click it?

When you highlight something in the archive (provided it opens), and then click the extract button at the top of the 7zip window, does it ask you where you want to extract the selected files to?

Help me help you.

Nope; invalid command line instead. I can highlight, right click, and get 7zip to open, and then transfer files as you suggested. But I cannot get the Updater to run, so I left it alone for the most part.

Yes; I chose Copy To functionality, and finally managed to hit the non-labled Browse feature by accident, and directed it to copy the proper files. But for the Aenea files, I cannot find a way to elininate one of the files after choosing Select All, so as to avoid sending a .tlk file to Haks; did them one at a time. I could not get the World Gate download to work at all, and used the manual method instead.

OK, this indicates that there is a problem with the installation of 7zip. Expected behavior is to open any 7zip archive that is double clicked. Try going to Control panel > Add/Remove programs and uninstalling 7zip. Then reboot your computer.

After reboot, redownload and reinstall 7zip. Try this link. After reinstall, try to double click the file again.

Just to be absolutely clear, when you say you cannot get the updater to run, do you intend that to mean the CEP updater?

When you highlight something in the archive (provided it opens), and then click the extract button at the top of the 7zip window, does it ask you where you want to extract the selected files to?

OK for our purposes here, you want to be using the Extract button rather than Copy To, just to avoid cluttering your Temp folder with uneeded files. I apologize I didnt give you a heads up about the browse button not being labelled.

To remove a file from your selection after using Select All, simply hold down the Ctrl key on your keyboard and then Left-Click the item(s) you wish to de-select. This trick will work in almost all areas of Windows.

For worldgate, I found the trick is that The Amethyst Dragon has included a text file in the download that has the instructions for installation and setup. Here is a block of the relevant text from that readme file:

NOTES: 1) The "new" Button is blue and is located near the upper-right corner of the little worldgate window, and 2) the "From URL" button is green and is located near the bottom left of the "New PW definition" window that opens after you click on the "new" button. 1) Then there are 2 blue "..." buttons on the right side of this new window. You want to click the "..." on the same line as "nwn installation". Here are some images to help you spot 'em:

This archive contains the three files you'll need to run Tani's WorldGate software.

This simple program can easily keep your World of Aenea files up to date without having to fully re-download every hak or tlk file that is updated. It makes incremental updates much more feasible and less of a hassle, especially as the amount of custom content increases over time.

To use, just decompress the two .dll files and the WorldGateClient.exe file into a folder on your computer. All three need to be in the same folder/directory, but do not have to be in your NWN installation folder.

1ST USE:

In order to access the Aenea files, run the software, click on the "new" button, click on the "from URL" button, and enter the address of the Aenea home page (http://www.amethyst-dragon.com/nwn).

Use the "..." button to navigate to your NWN installation folder.

Click on "test and exit", then on "check for new files".

The initial download of Aenea files may take a while, but later ones will go much faster as the WorldGate software downloads only the parts of the files that have changed since the last check was run.

LATER USES:

After running the program the first time, each other time you can simply select the "Aenea" server from the drop-down list and "check for new files".

We can deal with the CEP updater issues if we can get 7zip and worldgate squared away. Let me know if these help.

I think I've got everything right, but apparently I don't.

I'm missing cep2_top_v24.hak

Also, Worldgate won't initialize for me, so I installed the Aenea files manually, which seems to have worked out.

cep2_top_v24.hak should be in the latest version of the CEP (2.4).

If you can't find it in your copy of the CEP, I just uploaded a compressed copy of it for you: cep2_top_v24.rar. You may have to right-click and "Save link as..." to get it to download properly.

This may be the most noobish question asked on this forum, but when you say step by step you don't actually cover how to get into the Aenea server itself, can you list those steps please. As in, double click on the nwnmain.exe and go from there? I used the extender to alter the nwnmain.exe file and when the list of various servers come up I couldn't find any called Aenea or The World of Aenea, I tried both. I've downloaded almost all the files posted on this site, optional and mandatory and yet I'm stuck, any help would really be appreciated as this PW looks awesome! Thanks in advance Smile

Make sure you have selected the" PW Action" filter on the left hand side, or, just use direct connect to this address "68.3.54.71:5121" (without the quotes).

And....

Welcome to Aenea!! cheers

Hey, thanks for the super fast response, and embarassingly after I'd written that address on a piece of paper I tried again and I could see the server there clear as day, either I'd gone blind for a few seconds when previously trying or I did something wrong lol. Anyway, will definately be trying out the game over the next few days ^^

How To: Play Online (neverwinternights.info)

In the server listings, "The World of Aenea" is listed in the "PW Action" section.

In addition to connecting through the list of servers, you should have a button on the bottom of the screen in the multiplayer section that says "Direct Connect". If you click on this, you can type a server's IP address in. The IP address for Aenea is found on the main page of the website, and is currently 68.3.54.71: 5121.

Edit: Ah, I see your question was answered already while I was typing and fixing the missing step of hitting the "Join Internet Game" button on the neverwinternights.info site.

We look forward to seeing you in-game!
