The Amethyst Dragon,
I was just going to ask you if you saw this resource, the ROAR project ... then I scrolled down to the bottom of the forum thread and saw your post! What will ROAR do for Aenea if it is successful? And what does the off-palette business mean for the module resources?

For Aenea, it would mean the likely addition of a resource-based crafting system. The kind of "1st, mine some ore. 2nd, smelt the ore. 3rd, alloy some stuff to make steel. 4th, use steel to make a sword." kind of crafting that some players enjoy.

"Off-Palette" means the items aren't part of the "whole-module" resources that can cause a known DM-client crash when there are too many items, creatures, placeables, doors, triggers, encounters, merchants, sounds, and waypoint blueprints in the "palettes". They're part of the module, but not part of the "resource limit" since the don't have blueprint files.

You start with an item that is on the palette, then either it place it on the ground in an area, or in the inventory of a placeable in that area, or in the inventory of a merchant object in that area. Edit the properties of that placed item, and it will retain those new properties as long as the item remains placed. Do some fancy script work, and you can locate and copy that edited "non-palette" item to someplace else (such as a PC's inventory). Do a lot more fancy script work and you can actually use that copied item for scripted crafting or other uses.

I was just starting to plan and code a similar system for Aenea when I read about the one that's going to be added to CEP. I figure I'll just adapt a bunch of the code from that one after it gets out of beta testing and save myself a few dozen headaches. Razz

Don't know yet, since CEP hasn't added the code yet for public download.

My plan is to adapt it to work with tradeskills, so anyone can make use of it (and improve in crafting skills). If it's really extensive, that could open the possibility of quite a few new tradeskills.

I guess we'll just have to wait and see.

* The Amethyst Dragon goes back to the toolset now that the family's asleep, so he can finish recoding the undead animating/summoning spells and feats to allow more than one minion at a time and to spread out/expand scaling of the spells into epic levels. (1 down, 5 to go) *
