Just another thing going into the next hak update...

This little screenshot is just showing what I did today when I wasn't taking care of my kids. I was rather productive.

For those that are wondering what this is...it's 2/3 of the new magic staff "tops" I'm making for Aenea. Yes, 80 so far, and another 41 still on my list (hopefully I'll finish up with those tomorrow). Then on to the planned 56 new "middle" shaft parts, then the 57 planned new "bottom" parts.

Yes, for those spellcasters that might want to carry around a magic staff and look all wizardly, there will be more variety once I get this update done. Oh, and I'm doing away with the default BioWare ones, since they're all (with the exception of one specific staff) annoyingly ugly. I'm replacing the ones from the CEP, too, since I don't really care for many of those.

I'm enjoying making the new models, but I'm not looking forward to having to make new icons for every single one of them...not a difficult task, just tedious after the first 30 or so.

Yes, this does mean I'm trying to pack in as many content projects as possible into the next hak update. Potions, staves, tilesets...might as well make it worth the downloading time.

Staffs will be fun again!

The way my mind works (and with some little discoveries along the way)...the planned 120 staff top parts is not going to happen. Right now the count stands at 180. Not planned...made.

Plus, I've been experimenting, and one of the "bottom" part options will be to overlay a dynamic light over the top part. Yup, that means lighting that shifts around as you are beating on stuff with your magic staff is possible.

I can see that I'm going to have to add magical staff appearance crafting to the mystical modification boots for those spellcasters with the Imbue Focus feat, because I'll never have time to actually use every option (or combination of options) myself.

I think I need to quit what I'm doing and get working on the middle and bottom parts.

Sounds about right. He hasn't PC'd BlueBeard The Great, Master of All Magicks in over a year or more, but from what I recall... The RP was pretty effortless

hehe...Bluebeard officially retired and built a tower in the Vale where he lets adventurers use his facilities for item work.

For those with voucher made staffs with parts that are getting replaced, will we have to pay for a redesign voucher to fix the staff appearances?

I would think that a voucher shouldn't be required - it's not like the item is just being redesigned by the player...

Yeah, but you can't alter the appearance of custom items

On some you can, some you can't. If I recall correctly, it depends on if the plot flag is set on the item when you submit it. A number of my characters' items had the plot flag set and are unalterable.

Magic staves aren't currently doable with the tailoring mannequins either until tweaks them.

This is true. I do remember a way to get around that plot flag issue, although it was removed when redid the crafting menu...

Existing reward voucher staves that will need a visual redesign can just be emailed to me, with a note mentioning the staff model update (along with the usual username/character name/original name of the item).

There ya go! See, we knew it'd be ok!

Or even easier, just send me a pm or email with the new part numbers...much less work on both sides.

I had the insane idea to create a staff made from vertabrae. Then I modeled the thing from scratch.

Nobody will ever again have to suffer when someone says wizards have no spine...when you can pull one out of your pack and use it to unleash a deadly spell on them.

And yes, I've got a staff item in mind for this one.

That's a mighty fine idea! And a giant placeable version is actually a lot easier than making a staff part that needs to line up with other parts.

Im going to have to design a new Prestige Class, Arcane Bottlemaster.

Then I can perform Rain of Bottles... to strike multiple punners with increased threat range and multipliers.

Best get cracking on that then.

Hey, how about that ... it could be an intelligent weapon! Make all sorts of wisecracks while the PC goes about her business...

Perfect choice for the graduating apprentice mage who strives to get a head....

The second staff would be good for mage duels; what starts as a fight ends up in a hockey match....

On a rare serious note, if the Wizard quest in the Undead city is still broken, perhaps the new associated quest item that should be sought might be the complete skeleton of an ancient mage as the base for these new staves. It could be assembled at Bluebeards, and might have multiple options so not every mage has the same exact reward, at least in appearance.
