Log-in Oddities
So, I logged in just now and wasn't having any problems for the first 60 seconds or so. From there, everything went berserk. I got affected by the AFK effects and then shortly thereafter crashed.
I relogged, assuming my NwN went a little wonky (like it does sometimes) and got the same effects reapplied almost immediately. My reflexive tendencies of hitting the tab key and opening my character sheet yielded even further strange results. My character sheet opened up blank (no numbers, image, text, etc.) and closed immediately thereafter. The tab key functioned normally, except that my own character appeared blue (as per neutral targets) rather than green (as per friendly targets).
I relogged yet again, and got through to the SDI. Here I experienced the strangest part of it all. Upon loading the screen, it appeared that the game attempted to have me 'possess' another character who was in the same area. After the system resolved itself, I got control of my own character and walked outside. There, I could no longer move the camera and the character sheet and tab key did the same as the above.
Throughout the whole process, until the game itself locked up and crashed to the desktop, I was able to chat freely.
One more time I logged in to the character select screen and saw the same character that I 'possessed' in my character vault. That character's name is Khaarok the Terrible.
I'm the only one playing from my house at the moment, so the odds of having the same IP address and port number are slim to none. To be sure, I changed the port and still had the same issue.
Anyone have a clue as to what's happening?

The usual line of questioning ... how are your video drivers? Have you recently made any kinds of changes to your system that might affect your NwN install? New video card, removed sound card, anything along those lines? Might just be a wonky installation - it sucks, but a clean one might be the answer for you.

Re: Log-in Oddities
I haven't done anything with my drivers, and literally the game was working without error 3 hours ago.
My request for the moment would be for a server reset. The character that I'm conflicting with is in the character list, but their character avatar is highlighting as an NPC (at least for me).
Is this how a ' we have the same CD key ' issue happens these days?

Re: Log-in Oddities
I experienced this myself, kitten. I'm gonna log in right now, and if it is still going on, I will see if I can get the server to reset.

Ok, server reset as of 7:27 pm EST USA. We'll see how things progress from there.

Re: Log-in Oddities
The reset fixed the issue.
For future note : the player list showed 1 more player name than the server listing at the time. (on the website, and on the character selection screen)

Re: Log-in Oddities
I have no idea what cause your problem or how to solve it, unfortunately, but thought I would answer this one question.
I experienced that problem first hand some, okay, a lot of years back, and know just how annoying it can be. . .
With most big problems though. . .The solution to is so simple. Almost embarrassingly, so. Once known.
Just a small edit of a nwn .ini file to play the game using a different gameport.
Nope, as far as I know, no one can play in the same game with identical cd keys. It does however resemble the Two-players-playing-from-the-same-IP-address-using-the-same-gameport problem! (Whew, quite the sentence to digest/type out! )evilkittenofdoom wrote:Is this how a ' we have the same CD key ' issue happens these days?

Re: Log-in Oddities
This is the same issue that is happening for people today, just for reference to the original time I first had this occur.

Based on posting dates, this has occured earlier, too. I recall the vaults having to have Alts removed from accounts, if that helps ring the proper bell.

Re: Log-in Oddities
Just popped on quick as DM to do a manual reset if needed, but it looked like we had a decent bunch online and things seemed to be back to normal more or less.

Re: Log-in Oddities
Confirmed... There was a reset possibly moments before I logged in tonight*.. been on-line for some three to four odd hours with no problems arising....
No reports from anyone of weird issues either, and plenty of new players passing through on NWPAD exploration...
*Logged in earlier today, came back later and found myself in the astral.. so a reset happened between the two log in times...
