For new, semi-new and semi-pro players (yeah, pretty much for everyone) ...
Hello, all!
I don't remember if made this topic a post somewhere (maybe it was on the old forums, I can't recall), and I'm too tired/lazy/old to search for it, so I'm gonna put it here.
Lately, I've been adventuring here and there, and I've noticed one thing. Well, a bunch of things, actually ... the remains of vanquished foes. All over the place. Now, I understand that to many folks, cheese sandwiches and the like have no inherent value (stupid bandits), and that there is no point hauling them around. I see the logic in that, certainly. But when lots of these undesirable remains are left on the ground, they can bog the server down - lag monster, anyone? So, to combat this problem, gave us the Sacrificial Flame item! Reduce server clutter and win favor with your deity in one fell swoop! The benefits of this are pretty cool - experience, gold, potions, restoration of life, a gift of xp back after you die ... the gods express their appreciation for your sacrifices in so many ways!
I guess this is the whole point of this post ... You will be rewarded for cleaning up your messes.
"And remember," says, "only you can help prevent server lag."
Enjoy your holidays!

On that note, I've noticed times after cleanup where some remains stay behind, glowing.
Might be a bug, not really sure. Maybe those particular remains just aren't accepted with the rest.

i've seen that too. once you zone out of the area and return they have gone away for me

And you don't have to individually sacrifice each set of remains. You can target yourself with the sacrificial flame and mass-sacrifice all remains within about 10 meters of you.
Re: For new, semi-new and semi-pro players (yeah, pretty much for everyone) ...
Let me ask you this - does the PC get more consideration (favor) if she sacrifices each remains individually, or is the number of remains sacrificed taken into account when a target self/mass sacrifice is performed?

10 meters? Or feet? 10 meters is a little over 30 feet. Bard song has a range of 30 feet, and the range of bard song is much larger than mass sacrifice

Maybe ten feet. I'll have to check the code, since it's been a looooooooooooong time since I coded that.

*cough* *bump*
Yes it's 10 feet... would be great at 10m though, but wouldn't it cause laag finding all the remains in an area that size?.....

I'm going to necro this thread - please forgive me, I'm new!
I've also noticed the difference between using the flame against single items in your inventory and items on the ground.
Does the PC gain any benefit when sacrificing remains on the ground? XP and gold don't appear to be awarded, does the PC's piety even increase?

Unless it is bugged, piety should increase. I still kinda believe that smaller one at a time offerings will yield more than a mass clearing, but it is a great way for a server to help prevent lag and award something for it at the same time.

Re: For new, semi-new and semi-pro players (yeah, pretty much for everyone) ...
There are slight differences between sacrificing items from inventory and remains from the ground. Namely, sacrificing an item from inventory can yield gold, xp, or a minor potion. Sacrificing remains on the ground can yield xp or piety.
As far as sacrificing individual sets of remains vs. doing a mass sacrifice, over the long term there is no difference. When you sacrifice remains, there is a chance for some sort of reward (piety or xp). This chance does not change whether doing individual or mass sacrifices. The rewards are based on the hit dice (or is it challenge rating?...I don't remember) of the dead creature(s) and the value of what items are in/on their remains. Sacrificing more creatures at a time increases the potential reward, but the random chance of getting that reward stays the same.
Sacrificing individual remains means more chances at smaller rewards of xp/piety, mass sacrificing remains means fewer chances at bigger rewards of xp/piety. The % chance for reward remains the same in either case.
