Moving...
Finished buying a larger house today. Only took a year.
Now I'm stuck moving in the middle of summer...in Arizona.
Anyway, I'll be largely offline for at least a week as I paint and clean in the new house, then move tons of stuff from the current house to the new one.
At some point I'll have to take Aenea offline while I move the home network and get cable/internet service transferred from the current house to the new one. I'll try to give some warning, and will post in the DM Announcements forum when it happens. The homepage will show the game being offline for "server maintenance". As soon as things are set up in the newer house, I'll put the game back online.
Is it sad that the first thing I will be moving into the new place tomorrow will be a 12-pack of ?

I was surprised at how much I enjoy the diet variety - usually diet sucks big-big-big time, but in this case, it is good enough that I can drink it with no ramifications (also good is diet a&w root beer)!

Re: Moving...
Just spent about 80 dollars and 5 hours painting the master bedroom in the newer house. A room that did not need to be painted until yesterday, when certain 2 year olds got into some white ceiling paint and got it on the walls and (luckily tile) floor.
At least we were able to see the pool turn from a weird neon + pea soup green to blue...just took 8 shock treatments and two gallons of chlorine. It may sound mean, but I kind of enjoyed dumping all that in a body of water that had immature mosquitoes swimming around in it.

Re: Moving...
Some vulgarity below.
- Spoiler:
I hate people.
So today I got to spend another $150 extra and an extra day of work. Why?
Fucking drunk-ass teenagers decided that to get into my new house, dig around in stuff, and have themselves a little party. They either got in through a loose window or one of them had a key.
I just bought all new locks yesterday, but decided to put in new outlets and light switches instead and change the locks today.
They broke some vases and a heavy glass picture frame, ate some of our snack food, and made a mess of the place. Oh, and stole some of the new locks with the keys.
Hell, one of them took a pen, took the cover off a small dog/cat door to the garage, and wrote "Kicking party yo! 8-5-12" on the back side of it (that nobody would see without removing the cover).
They spilled apple juice all over one room, and mopped it up with a pile of towels (which they conveniently left in a mound on top of the dryer). Swept broken glass and crumbs out the front and back doors, and left their red plastic cups and empty Jack Daniels bottle in the recycling barrel.
I'm shocked I don't have to repair all the walls, floors, doors, and windows.
So today, I got to buy a bunch more locks, rekey all of them to completely different keys, install all the new locks, clean, change the combination/frequency on the garage door opener, and put screws through window frames.
Luckily we hadn't gotten around to moving anything remotely valuable yet for them to steal (besides those fucking expensive locks that were sitting uselessly on top of the fridge).
I hate this city/desert/state. Someday I'll get to move away. Honestly, I'm surprised nobody has broken into anyplace else I've lived in this city in the 13 years I've lived here.
Re: Moving...
Ouch, that just sucks. Hope you have some sort of recourse in the finding the ones who did that, even as remote as it may be

Re: Moving...
The State has little or nothing to do with such problems, IMO; more of an issue with larger population areas. This is one reason I avoid large cities and metropolitan zones. But crime still occurs everywhere, as well as ignorant trespassers such as these.
Best check the pool, too; frequent place for vandalism to occur especially in Summer.
Really sorry....

Re: Moving...
Hell, after some bullcrap like that....
I would seriously consider installing some hidden wireless webcams, set them up on a network that saves the video to a well hidden/secured laptop, and leave the joint unsecured in hopes the jackarses try that crap again.
You neighbors probably know *something* about which kids did that. After all, how did they know to target the place unless they live in the area?
I sincerely hope you've gotten the police involved.

Re: Moving...
A mate of mine had his house set up with cameras over internet, which records and can be monitored via his I-phone. about AUD1700 I think. Not cheap, but neither was replacement as it was not all insured. The Police take prints etc. but the chances of finding the perpetrators over here are remote. An ID from camera however ....
We were knocked over three times in one house, my money is on the same people doing it each time. I suspect that if it has happened once, the chances are greater of a repeat effort. Particularly if it is local Kids.
I feel your pain with regard to moving, all else aside. I have more experience in this area then I would like. I am not planning on moving from my Island here, ever if I can help it.

Re: Moving...
Locks have all been changed, and the dog will soon be moving there (actually, all of us will). I have a feeling that once they know someone is actually living there (with a large protective dog), they won't try again. I have a feeling someone knew nobody was going to be there and got in, then invited their friends over for some Jack Daniels and Nerf basketball.
Oh, and they finished off the 2nd half of my pack of Key Lime Pie flavored gum!
I don't think the real motive was robbery (they only took a couple of locks). One or more of them actually took time to try to clean up some of their mess before leaving.

Re: Moving...
No; I do not hope for any return visits. My sister owned a Pit Bull that chased away some burglars when she was living in Memphis, and the culprits returned the next night and poisoned the dog. My sister countered later by moving elsewhere, and obtaining dogs with obvious bloodlines to Wolves.
I simply hope these were thoughtless, careless kids, and stay away forever; unless they repent and introduce themselves to for appropriate discipline. It has happened....

Re: Moving...
I saw this thread last night, and you have my sympathies, A D. The involvement of the police is essential, and I'm sure you've taken that step. One other thing that may be helpful, IF applicable in your situation, is to make your H. O. A. aware of what happened.

Re: Moving...
Yeah, the cops are needed... Best chance to identify perps. You don't have to press charges if you think they feel bad about it - just having the cops involved and the threat of serious consequence may achieve the desired effect... But if they don't feel bad and don't take you seriously, you need the police involved to prosecute properly.

Re: Moving...
This moving business is effin' expensive.
home improvement supplies - Home Depot keeps getting more of my money...at least it's not much gas money to go 1/2 mile round trip.
pool work - new gaskets, piston, professional cleaning (it needed it), and instruction on upkeep...
gas money - so much driving around for this and that, plus trips back to the old house to finish collecting smaller items and starting clean-up so we can rent that place out.
cable installation - if it was just a standard move to a new house, Cox would have done everything for free (I pay them enough every month, they should)...but since the previous owners messed up the actual cable feeds, I got to shell out more money for the work to fix that.
pet supplies - medicine for goldfish that got some sort of infection while living alone at the old house (water got a degree or so too warm and encouraged bacteria and/or fungi growth), Litter Maid litter box for the cat, new food for the cat and dog.
new school year stuff - expenses for back to school always seem to extend a month or so into the school year.
But hey, at least I finished setting myself up with a new computer arrangement for when the wife isn't sleeping...a treadmill desk. I can walk at 1.5 to 2 miles per hour and still do everything on the computer. Burn lots of excess calories since I could go for hours if I wanted at that pace. And with the distraction of actually doing something "productive", I hardly notice the "secret" exercise going on. Managed to get almost an hour on it this afternoon while the youngin's napped and wife watched an episode of a show on TV.

I admit to being impressed, I don't think I could walk and seriously use the computer at the same time.

Awesome laptop setup! I stack two tv stands and march in place, same concept, I just have not committed to buying a treadmill.
