Ah, a thought - does the essence in question have to come from the goofy pillars? Because I've been using the ones purchased from merchants/gotten from elementals.

I would think it doesn't matter. They're the same item, stack together, ect.

Did anyone else go in before that you know of?  I DO recall some minor issue with the doors only opening right once per reset... I cann't recall if that was just a one time glitch, or if it was a repeatable bug that got squashed or not.
