Re-leveling a Wizard Empty Re-leveling a Wizard

If I decide to re-level my wizard, will I lose all my learned spells? I ask this because a 3rd level wizard cannot 'learn' a 4th level spell. So if I am returned to 1st level, I would expect that my entire spell roster would be removed. If this is so, that list (which now includes nearly every spell from every level...barring 3 1st and 2 4th level ones) would be lost and would be rather difficult to replace. I could sit down and write a scroll for each one, but the time and trouble would be enormous.

you lose only the spells you took as bonus learns for level up. All the spells you learned via scroll you keep. When I releveled Lyann, I had plenty of level up spells to learn all the new spells.

That seems correct, unless you did not start at 1st as a Wizard. A Rogue/ Wizard might lose all learned spells, if I recall correctly. This is why there are differences between my two Bright Gnomish Mages; the first began as a Rogue, and the second did not.

That is correct.... if your 1st level is wizard, spells you learned via scrolls, not level up, will remain in your spellbook.  You won't have access to spells beyond first level until you level back up in wizard (of course), or you have items that grant bonus spell slots for the higher levels.

Another thing to remember is that upon level up you get to learn 2 free spells. So, go to the AG in Mountainhome and pick up all the available spell scrolls there, then more from the Mage Guild in Macedone to fill gaps, and a couple from the old eyeball, and then your bonus learns should easily cover any hard to find spells.

I can confirm that all 'scroll-learned' spells were still there. I did start as a Wizard first though. Multiclassed wizards who did not start as wizards are another story.

Thank you for the advice everyone.

If you ever catch me on-line in any guise, ask to see Grace.. she has a spare copy of 99% of all spells on scrolls... and if not can more then likely fill in the gaps in a few seconds... she is called the Walking Library for a reason ... Smile
