I love that winged enemies will fly outdoors, even though its a little clunk and messes with targeting, its till better than having them sit across a chasm or behind a wall and not use their wings to get to their target.

That being said, it kinds stinks when I have petrified or immobilize a target in order to keep them at range and 'poof' there they are next to me. This can be especially bad if they had been targeted with a non-party-friendly AoE spell before they flew, but the casting finished when they land next to the caster. Now, normally, I would say 'use your imagination a little - the guy closed the gap as you were casting...'

When the guy is made of inanimate stone, or is being physically grappled and held in place by a magic hand-shaped forcefield, then I take issue.

Not sure how barbed demons' teleportation works conceptually, but it behaves the same way.

What you mention is actually an engine bug I believe. Barbies don't teleport by design, but they and other non-flying, immobilized baddies occasionally get jumped to the player for some reason. 

You can tell the difference because the 'teleport' happens indoors and outdoors, but the flight thing only happens outdoors.

I thought maybe it was intentional, seeing how they're very rogue-like(and I think PnP shadowdancer has some sort of tp move).

It happens on a regular basis with them, but I don't recall having any other non-flying creature do that in the recent weeks.

For non-flight npcs, I wonder if the 'teleporting/moving' they do is related to the engine oddity that happens with NPCs followers/companions.... that is if they are a given distance away from you and trying to get to you, but are blocked in some manner, after a minute or two, the game will just pop them right next to you.

That is my suspicion, and so, I didnt report it as a bug, because I don't think The Amethyst Dragon can fix that part. The flight script should be able to be fixed, however.

Well I know the flight script has things in it that stop you from flying if under the effects of entanglement (web). I found this out recently when fighting Queen Spiders on Deathwater, T'set couldn't fly away.

I sure I also remember something with wearing Earthrooted Boots doing the same thing....

So the enemies being able to fly/teleport whilst immobile/stoned is a bug in the script that maybe these things are being overlooked if the "user" is not a PC?


I'm happy to be a test pig if needed.. petrify a PC, see if they can still use the fly feat... ...

I think the earthroot boots stop all flying by a check to see if you're wearing them.  My shifter wears them, but when he goes into dragonshape, he can fly as he's not technically wearing them anymore.

But yes, if the entangle spell has a check to stop flying, I think it would be good to place a similar check on other stopper spells Smile
