Just a friendly hi and a question :)

Hey everybody, i only just recently discoverd this wonderful world

Lucky me i got my gf hooked on rpgs so ill have a noob troup
You all seem like very nice people and i cant wait to explore ith u guys. There is however one matter at hand. While i was playing today my gf and i left the townhall in the vale when all of a sudden i lost connection. now when i join it just stops at around 80% of the loading bar, yet i seem to be ingame as the server lets it be known that i have joined and my gf can shoot me a party invite, which also appears right abouve the loading screen.

Thats preety much it, if i did anything wrong please do let me know so that i can take car of the problem.

Update!

Well i just said F it and made a new toon. I went to the same place where my boot occured and it happend AGAIN did a relog and boom: 2nd toon was fine.

logged over to the 1st one and hes fine too.

Computer Voodoo i guess.

I'm glad you got it sorted, that can happen sometimes during a load screen and if I recall, in the past it has required a server reboot to reset the character's location to the starting area. Thankfully it didn't come to that.

I will try to see if I can catch you online sometime soon. If you have any other issues or questions, keep 'em comin'.

Just as we left the farmers field, heading east it locked up once again.

Guess we will wait for a reboot.

Welcome to Aenea, Foerunner!  Hopefully you get those issues sorted out, 'cause Aenea is a heck of a world to explore!

If that lockup keeps occurring, even with a server reset, perhaps a redownload of the haks is in order ...

I just logged in and reset the server.  Hopefully it comes back up and all is well!

Well it did send my toon back, however the same problem occured. Im going to reinstall the .haks again as Eric of Atrophy suggested.

Did that, turned out i didnt use the Q_updater... learning by doing i guess

However now i have no menu buttons i changed the override fodler to "overide.old" to see if that was it but to no avail.

Do you have the aenea.tlk file in the tlk folder? I know that simple thing has goobered me up in the past ...

Its in there. Its strange i cant find anyone else so far with this problem concerning the menu.

what about trying 's modified dialogue.tlk file? It may work, it may not, but i'm thinking it might be along these lines ...

This might help, it might not. I'm not sure, but it wouldn't hurt to try. Just don't forget to backup the regular dialog.tlk file before you add 's modified one.

Also, if for some reason the download doesn't work, I may have a copy lurking on my harddrive. Will you update us as to your progress?

I would check if the problem with menu buttons only occurs in Aenea.

If you go into single player, does it work OK? If not, then your base installation may have issues.

If it only happens in Aenea, and you have ruled out override issues, then I would think it could be a hak or tlk problem. Try re-downloading them to see if it helps.

The NWN 1.69 critical rebuild is also an option.

Well i went out on a limb and reinstalled nwn and added all the files.

Now i cant join the server at all.

Did you get your copy of NwN from GOG? If so, did you request new keys?

I got it from GOG and also have new keys.

What does it do when you try to join the server? Any dialogue boxes or weird messages or anything like that? Can you play single player okay?

It will not accept the numeric address. Also gets really laggy at that point.

SP works like a champ. When i try to log on its just a black screen and then i time out

I just successfully connected to:

24.177.221.69:5121

The behavior you observed of the black screen timeout is indicative of a failure to connect to the server, perhaps caused by:

1) Uninstallation removing some exception/allowance in 3rd party network security/internet/firewall software so that it is now blocking port 5121 or internet connectivity for nwmain.exe
2) Uninstallation reverting some change you made to NWN that allowed you to bypass the Bioware Master Server authentication.

For #1 I recommend temporarily disabling any network/internet security software and testing the connection again. If it works, this will tell you that you need to look into re-creating whatever allow rule or exception is needed for port 5121 or the nwmain.exe. If you and your GF both play on the same LAN, one of you may also need to go into the nwnplayer.ini (inside the NWN directory) and adjust the client port to 5120 to avoid conflicts.

For #2 I recommend Neverwinter Nights Client Extender by Virusman. More info on the page in the link.

For those unable to connect and who get the black screen/boot, it might be worth a try to use the custom nwn.talk for testing.

The custom tlk is available off the downloads page.  *Backup* your original nwn.talk file (located in the root nwn install, not in the tlk folder).  Then place in the custom one.

The custom tlk has specific boot messages worked into it that will not show with the default nwn.talk.  If the issue you are running into is covered by the custom boot messages, you may be able to better figure out what's going wrong for you.
