Post by RustyDios Sat Aug 08, 2009 4:25 pm

*** SPOILER WARNING ***

*** This map contains SOME information that MAY hamper your feeling of achievement for exploring Aenea for yourself ***
*** Please be careful with viewing this map if you don't want to know the locations of certain things, such as portals ***
*** And once more, this is an Area-By-Area map of Aenea, with certain details filled in for certain area's...... ***

*** SPOILER WARNING ***

Okay so what better way to kick-start the "places" section of Aenea lore then with an "overview" of the world... this is laid out with all relevant transitions in roughly the correct place, and each square represents an in-game overland area. I'm sorry it doesn't detail exactly what is in each area but gives a rough clue to "important features and key landmarks"....

... ... ... Further more, as this was written "in-game" by Jay Braysin (The Wandering Shadow) and Valoriana Nailo (Trailblazer Disciple of Gort) The area known as "Icereach" remains largely unexplored Smile ....

Hope you like ... ((Click for larger image))

Aenea Aeneam11

Jay Braysin (Wandering Shadow of Aenea) & Valoriana Nailo (Trailblazer Disciple of Gort)

EDIT :: Moved the cut-up version from the posts below to the up here with the OP....

Hope it all lines up correctly... !

Well that worked quite well.... Smile .... with a slight bit of overlap... please save images to your PC, print, lay atop each other and apply glue.... your new Aenea Map is now ready for the wall by your PC (next door to The Amethyst Dragon's version) ... Smile ... Smile ....

PS: The above images are thumbnail previews.. clicking on them will enlarge them, and then you can really see them how I want you to.....

PPS: This Map is to my knowledge (bar Icereach, which is deliberately left "uncharted"!!) correct at time of going to press... 10:15 GMT 04 Mar 2010

EDIT :: Amendment 1 new area added to RDAMT3 ( Top row section 3) (~Moonblaze Area~)
EDIT :: Amendment 2 new area added to RDAML3 ( Middle line section 3) (~Carpatha Area~)
EDIT :: Amendment 3 new area added to RDAMB1 (Bottom line section 1) (~Edge Water and Blue Cave~)
EDIT :: Amendment 4 The area's of darkleaf forest now connect to each other, RDAMM4 (2nd row section 4)

Me likey the map lots! Any way you could break down the individual areas, or even superimpose the game-squares over the drawn maps that The Amethyst Dragon has?

Regardless, RustyDios, this is a peach!

Give me a few days and I can break the map into regions... and upload better shots (more in depth - the way I see it)... .... as for superimposing over the actual Aenea map... I tried it with an overview, and it didn't look quite right... some regions are rather small but have an extensive area-by-area focus (such as Nektaria) whereas others are rather large but have little coverage (such as the Calithian desert).... ...

The Overview Overlay I created looked like this...

Aenea Aeneam15

Which is good to a degree, but not as good as I wanted it to be... even using The Amethyst Dragon's printable maps (with each done by section) the two maps just don't "line-up" as much as I want them too... but it does go to show how near-perfect The Amethyst Dragon's area planning skills are... What if you tried a superimposition with each individual broken-down area ... one for Shentil, one for Nektaria, one for Macedonia, etc...

Awesome map, Rusty.

Updating this for changes is likely to be an issue.

I would really like it if, when new areas are added, the playerbase got some clue as to where they have been linked, so experienced players dont have to repeatedly re-explore the whole world in order to find them.... and it might make it possible to have an "Explorer's Guild" on the forums to keep the map updated.

Carpatha, located off the fringe of Ebonhold, or to the south of one of the areas between mistborne and shantaharnarama (cant remember which area has the entrance to carpatha, but the ebonhold one will work.)

Ha... Glub gla glub indeed.... map changed with respect to new overland area's.... ... Smile

And thankye The Amethyst Dragon for the heads up for us older players that have explored the world... countless times over... ... Smile

... And (just as more a mental note to myself)... this is only an "Overland" area map of Aenea, with no specific details. It does not venture Underground, Underwater, Into Dungeons, Into and through any Caves,Have shops/huts/hotels/playerhouses/building interiors or any number of things that could have been included (such as The Great hall and the Dark Realms)... and at some point I will get around to changing all those little boxes for the actual in-game minimap with all the above included .....

~Which will be when they finally give in and create the 8th day-of-the-week which will be a Worldwide Public holiday known as "Gameday" set between Today and Tommorrow ~ we can all dream.. ...... ...

Amaerille, the well traveled gnomish wizard and sometime cleric of Gort decided to take a shot at some map making. Her first effort is a map of the trade route from Mistborne on the edge of Nektaria to the Border with Calithia near Tradeholm. It is of course, a work in progress.

Update :: The area called "Daggershore" in Shentil now links up to part of K'nort Scrar called "The Rift".. this area has three area transitions following along the rift and an offshoot to "Arrowhead Keep" ...

The map above does NOT reflect this change (but I'm working on it, the new area's 'breach' a picture edge, I'm working on re-doing the map in a better graphics suite (using GIMP instead of MSPaint!), but it's taking a bit longer then expected and RL and other projects keep pulling away from this one... but it has been noted the mappe needs updating (it's now on "my list of stuff to do when the wife stops pestering me")......

Meh!.. It'll be more of the same as above, just with a little more "cleaner" graphics, clearer wording and "maybe" some common icons (for things like underdark entrances / dark realm entrances / portals) ... ...

I was planning on doing something akin to Amaerille's maps, but figured I'd leave that particular route of cartography to her and focus more on the "comprehensive but simple" map instead of the "sky-eye view of Aenea" thing ....

Second Row, Section 4.. the mountainholme crossroads to darkma's stand now actually has TWO new area's that are NOT reflected on the map above.. a small forested walk between them and an offshoot to a large abandoned mansion... .... Thankye to The Amethyst Dragon for the heads up...

Also noticed that the wizard checkers clearing near the vale now has a wizards chess clearing and an entrance to a very puzzling maze... ...

Oh! ... and the firehair clan has moved to just SW of the vale with a dedicated area, and Madera's Retreat has been disconnected from the Word of Recall point and taken over as the leaf market (accessible from the SE corner of the vale) ... ... ..

Also note that the desert city of Calithia has been totally overhauled to be one large and comprehensive area (mainly, I think the docks were still separate) with all the districts in "one" area... ... ... ...

Yes, loads of changes not accounted for...
Someday I'll get around to finishing the revamp... Sorry for the delays folks... ... ..

Okay.. so took me a while to find this one and scout it out...

The rift area north of watertown.. (not on the maps above)... at the far end of the rift you can now scale the eastern cliff face (twice) to get to a keep at the top... Another new overland area that needs to be added to the map... this is a very cool area to explore, with alot to see and do.. and something very very surprising up there... I would suggest anyone of at least 20lv+ go and check it out... ... ... ... and again thankye to The Amethyst Dragon for mentioning the new area's in the other thread ... .. ... ... ..

Thanks Rusty for putting this together!

If you still have the original files, is it possible to redo the K'nort Scrar section? It's completely illegible for the color challenged... Smile

Anything with a high contrast between background/foreground is good.

Perhaps yellow or a much more faint red, almost like a dusky dusty rose color?

Touche.

Actually I meant for it to be a reference to the color of one of the Ioun stones, but after checking I see I had it wrong, original post fixed.

Yes, I do still have the originals.... somewhere (the graph paper original !)... I also have the computer images .. they're on a backup USB drive....

I was working on a "better" image using GiMP but the project has ground to a halt due to my limited time constraints ..... I had a very limited colour palette for this one as it was made using MSPaint !!.... The main problem here comes from the decision to colour the area boxes after writing the names is, thus paint auto-filled around the lettering, which makes it hard to read, sorry....

I'm sure that some time when I get a week or two off it will be one of top projects to work on.... however.... you too could become a member of the Aenea Cartographers Guild and map it out better yourself.... there are many approaches to " the map project"... I'm sure everybody would like to see a fresh take on things...... ...

All I did with this one was move area to area noting the name presented on the load screen, the general minimap direction taken and the compass direction...

Also it is in need of serious "updating"... there are areas that have new additions, some of the landmarks have moved/changed, the "hin" section is either named different (fae) or changed entirely (haven't visited it in ages)... some section now link up that previously didn't (there is a route you can walk from the Macedone Burial Isle to Deathwater Isle, I think the map should reflect this).... Calithia is no longer separated into mini-areas per ward (even though the wards still exist)...
