Not Used: Telemus Arcanum
Thoughts:
1. The 5th level version of the spell seems a bit more powerful than the 6th level version, at least by the description. 6th level might want to be bumped to18d4+18? (EDIT) 17d4+17?
2. The range seems a little short for a ray spell... not much better than a melee touch attack.
3. Is it me or is there no visual effect for a beam of magic striking the target?(EDIT: im just blind lol)
4. The 1st level version is significantly subpar compared to magic missile. Shorter range, less damage, slower damage scaling, still blocked by the shield spell, and requires an attack roll. I would suggest a faster damage scale, 1d4/level, and perhaps remove the shield spell as a defense.

Re: Not Used: Telemus Arcanum
Another crazy idea... what about making telemus arcanum a spontaneously castable spell for all arcane casters?
Quickslot the telemus arcanum version you want, and when you cast it, it uses up a slot of that spell level. If you dont have any slots of that level, nothing happens.
Its seems a very basic form of magical attack, and would be cool if any arcane spell energy could be redirected/released in this raw, alternate form.

Or it could use some hitpoints as per the Arcane Acid/cold ect... attacks.

Re: Not Used: Telemus Arcanum
Copied from another thread:
The arcane attack feats, while I love them, probably shouldnt get upgraded memorizable versions for all arcan casters. Maybe a special prestige class could unlock something like that.
Kefrem wrote:One idea that ive had...is that i really like that freebie spell all casters get..the little energy blast (cant remember the name) that you can just keep using over and over.
Id like to see higher versions of this...to simulate the wizards capability to cast more powerful versions as he levels. They could be memorizable versions of it or something.
It would simulate in comics and in novels(elminster and mordenkainen come to mind) where they blast away with spells that dont seem to have any analogue in the pnp game. Maybe it could eat other spells the more they use it after the actual memorized versions of it were used up.
Just a fast thought i had.
