A request for the elders of magic
I have a 20k and 40K item vouchers for my sorcerer Mard Kley and have
now idea what to make for him. I have great robes, a pretty good
crossbow and the extras to go with them. I would like to build an
offensive spellcastor (ie I would like to blow up lots of things fast)
,but I am also a support role for Beuttleria and am in charge of
transporting them here and there via teleport and summune ally. Any
ideas oh elders of magic.

Re: A request for the elders of magic
Well my first suggestion would be to design a 20k item.... then add the 40k to it, to give you a grand total custom value of 60k....
Then you need to consider what you want on it... if it's purely for spellcasting I'll suggest you make a rod.. .. with spells such as Summon Ally 3/day, Word of Recall 1/day, Teleport 3/day, Magehound 3/day, ... that should get you and the beutlerians together and around.... and safely back to vale in a crisis....
Then offensively... fireball, gnimishes shockwave, glacious breath of winter all at level [5] and 5/day.... this leaves one open spell slot for you to play with.. which should cover most spells upto level [12] at 1/day... getting more uses a day at lower spell levels......
Note that rods can cast eight different types of spells, don't need to be equipped to be used and can function from the quickbar... the per day is so that each time you rest, they all get replenished... the offensive spells are all AoE's to cover large groups of enemies when you solo and help you aim some magical assistance direct into a heart of a battle from the sidelines....
Sidenote:: not sure of this idea conflicts with any rules , I didn't check as I wanted to get it off my head and straight down.... I believe the cost will put it into the mid 55k-60k.... ...
If ye wish any other properties other then spellcasting, you need to pick a different base item, as spellcasting is all rods do .... ....
Hope that is of help... but really you should wait for a response from Crideas.. he is a genius at custom item design... (or is so from what I've seen him do for his PC's)...

Re: A request for the elders of magic
Another very good option to put on an item...is if you can...make a wearable item..put the same tings rusty suggested on it along with immunity:mind affecting.
That way...fear affects and all tha nasty stuff will no longer affect you. So far the only things i have found in game are dragon slippers:fear immunity only..and the belt of guiding light:fear immunity, and they dont provide a wizzy with much benefit beyond the fear immune ability.
I put it on iggys robe and that freed up my belt slot of the guiding light belt...so i put a +6 str belt there, and it ups my AB and dmg with my wizards familiar dagger(which mind you for wizzys of my level is one beetchin dagger)
Another good choice..which i put on iggys robe..is dmg resistance of the big 3 slashing, piercing and bludgeoning 10/- It wont stop ranged spells dmg and such...but against the sword and club swingers...it cuts down on the punishment received. I put it on iggys robe and my rogues outfit and so on...and it really saves thier bacon at times.

Re: A request for the elders of magic
How do you spellcastors feel about extra slots for a spell level...is it as useful as its cost or should I just invest in renewal potions instead?

If ya put it on something that won't unequip when you rest it can be very handy. If it's on an item that you unequip on resting then not so much.

Re: A request for the elders of magic
Crid's robes give him a *slew* of additional spell slots
They have saved my bacon many times and make the resting limitations in Aenea hurt less
I *highly* recommend extra spell slots. My best recommendation is to figure out what spell slots you normally reserve for your best "buffs", and add slots of those levels to your gear to "free up" slots for more offensive Kabooms!
It has worked quite well for me. As long as you have the casting stat and caster levels to make your spells effective, the only other thing a caster needs is defenses and more spells
Rusty, Rayven, and Kefrem all had very good ideas. The idea of a rod to keep in inventory that can cast the teleportation magics is another thing I did on Crid that has been *incredibly* handy. Saves those slots for other spells.
Its all about capacity, which leads to endurance and versatility.

Re: A request for the elders of magic
Well I'm pretty sure I have come to a conclusion. I will make armor that will protect my fragile rear from big smash guys and then (once I figure out what spells I like to use and what slot they are in) later on I will make an item with extra spells/spell slots. That sound good or no?

Re: A request for the elders of magic
Iggy has 2 +6 int rings...and an amulet of spell slots...the rest are just odds and ends...his robe teleports and so on. I have an ioun stone and my wizard familiar dagger i use...(stone gives int, dagger spell slots) but they both unequip when resting so they are good for higher skill rolls and saves...and of course dmg output.
The other stuff i wear mostly for looks and/or versatility(teleport and so on)

Re: A request for the elders of magic
this redesign voucher thing is new to me...where can I buy it and what exactly can I do with it?....see (on another note) Derik has switched to bastard swords instead of two handed swords so I would like to make a super bastard sword by putting together my 40k voucher with my soon to come 150k voucher...is that possible

Re: A request for the elders of magic
The redesign voucher can be got at the SDI form the bar... it's got a hefty price tag... it allows you to completely change/redesign/alter a previously made custom item, adding/removing properties, changing icons and descriptions..... .... each redesign voucher is for one item.. and the redesigned item must have the same name... in my understanding you cannot use a redesign voucher to "merge" two previous item into one... I might be wrong on the last point...
Its really used for tweaking items, after playing with them for a bit..

Re: A request for the elders of magic
The "redesign vouchers" are available from the innkeeper of the Sleeping Dragon Inn.
Each allows you to submit a "redesigned" custom reward item that you already have, with changes to properties, appearances, etc. The name should stay the same (so I can figure out which item you're changing). You could change item types (from 2-handed sword to bastard sword, for instance).
Using a later reward voucher to upgrade a previous reward item keeps the same type...it's upgrading an existing item (and is less work for me than a redesign).
