Mar. 18: Player Rewards
With the next planned reset, there will be a change to the gaining of player "dedication to a character" rewards.
Old Method: Log into the Astral Conjunction, if enough time has passed you get moved to a room with a chest that you can pick one item from.
New Method: Each time you hit one of the times for a reward, you stop what you are doing and begin a conversation where you pick the reward you want from the list and it gets added right to your inventory. Oh, and the straight gold piece rewards have been enlarged for most of them.
Few, if any, people were taking the little +1 and +2 items, so I figured I might as well get rid of the chests and the whole "missed the script trigger" issues.

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
Not missing triggers anymore and having to pester a DM to spawn the chest is yay! But stopping what you're doing when you hit the time and having to have the conversation when you hit the right time sounds like it could cause headaches if you're in the middle of combat, or casting a spell, or another conversation with a merchant/NPC/portal. Guess I'll just have to see how it works in game, Miow's due for a voucher soon.

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
*shudder* what if it happened in the beholder caves or the mind flayer enclave....?
Is there a way to make it only happen in the Vale or some such?

Or in the Astral Conjunction as it is now, but as Amethyst said, a conversation instead of a "move to room, spawn chest, move back to room" situation.

An NPC in the Vale or somewhere nearby maybe?

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
Well, for now, since I've got a bunch of other stuff on my plate, I'm putting the old trigger back in the Astral Conjunction.
One step forward, one step...crap, tripped and fell on my face. Back to the start... *sigh*

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
It was a good plan. Good plans just don't always turn out. *thinks of the apple curry soup*

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
I think getting rid of the chests is a good idea, but I also like the restrictions of the Astral Conjunction or the Sleeping Dragon - everyone's gotta go through them, and chances are there's no hardcore action/combat going on in either place - unless, of course, Crideas invites Gron over ...

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
hey!
I did *NOT* invite that tusk-faced bugger into the Great Hall!
Besides, he had just killed me and found it unsatisfying.... the only reason he followed was to do it some more
Well, that and to smack Al around some more, too....

Re: Mar. 18: Player Rewards
Have an NPC in the Vale or some other safe place.
At any time, players can talk to the NPC who will tell them what their current time is and how much longer until their next reward. If players have hit a reward time, they can then proceed through a dialogue at their leisure, taking their time to mull over what reward to choose without fear of being killed in combat, interrupting an important dialogue with somebody else, or having some other critical event interrupted.
I think a priest of Kalas (god of rewards) would be perfect, and if IIRC, there is an altar to Kalas right by the Vale portal. It's near start for newbies to discover, near the respawn point for others to access, near a portal, for people to 'port to, and there's no combat nearby, so nothing will be interrupted. Seems the ideal solution to your problem.
PS. I now have the Paula Abdul song in my head: "Two steps forward, two steps... crap"
