I'm back. San Diego for a long weekend.
Friday = long drive, Mission Beach, hotel check-in, dinner
Saturday = Mission Beach, lunch, Balboa Park, dinner
Sunday = Mission Beach, lunch, Ocean Beach, dinner
Monday = Mission Beach, hotel check-out, long drive, dinner, family asleep
If you ever go there, I highly recommend hitting the beaches early in the day...Sat/Sun/Mon we got there around 9am for really easy parking (at Belmont Park) and less crowding.
Yep, we really went to bring the kids to play on the beach. And all the driving cost about $80 in gas (vs. flying for $200+ per person + car rental for 4 days).
