Crash to desktop

Hey

I've just recently joined Aenea, but my first adventures were of a rather short duration. Every time I go to the iron smith vendor (in the beginning village) and try to browse her selection of weapons, my game crashes to desktop. I tried browsing armors and shields and that went without a problem.

Another thing, I seem to have some new spells in my spellbook (cleric), but they don't have any description. Perhaps i'm forgetting something here?

Sounds like you don't have the correct versions of either the hak or tlk.

There's a new big hak update coming soon (I believe we're all just waiting for the files to be listed on the vault any day now, if it's notup already).

I downloaded the version of june 2009 yesterday. Ill wait for the new updates to be posted then and try again.

Sounds like the same issue I was having, when I started playing here.

I would re-download [the single hak files]

aeneahak_update.rar and the aenea_tlk.rar files that's on the vault.

When I did this everything went well.

I have downloaded the .tlk and .hak update file again, but I continue to keep crashing as soon as I want to see her selection of weapons. I don't really know what might be causing this. I only have the CEP files and Aenea files in hak folder and no other hak files that could potentially cause conflicts. Perhaps I should try deleting both backup folders that I have (hak_backup + tlk_backup).

Aye give it a try and see if that would make a difference. Just for shit and jiggles, what is you aenea_update KB size?

Removing the backup folders didn't help.

My update files are 26,1MB (hak) / 7,87MB (tlk)

No idea what the cause might be....I can play, I just can't buy any weapons

But i'm assuming I would encounter the same problem at other places/venues/... as well.

I dunno, I could be wrong, but I believe that someone, perhaps MannyJabrielle, had put forth that Darla's inventory is a fixed one, as opposed to many of the other vendors with random item stocks, and perhaps the problem lies in that direction. Does Smitty's inventory mess you up? If so, there are other vendors close by - worse comes to worse, you can always barter with other players for weapons to start out with. Skeletons in the graveyard also drop some basic weapons, and the Cleric of Zolaras and her skele-buddy are always too eager to help out...

Your hak file is correct with what I have, but your talk file is smaller then what I have. The one I have says 8060kb tlk. Maybe an issue or maybe not.

I don't think it's so much that Darla's inventory is fixed (most merchant inventories are, actually). Rather it's what's in her inventory. Other players who've come across this problem have had this happen with Smitty's special shop, Darla's shop, and Galitha's shop when opening the weapon's tab. All three of them have the new cestus weapons. Players with this problem also don't see the cestus weapons when bartering with other players and/or crash with the barter window when the cestus is placed into it.

If your hak's are all up to date (and be sure to check the timestamps on the files themselves to make sure they match up), another option to try is clear out your override folder, and then try. If it works for you then, start adding in stuff back into your override slowly until you find the offending file that was causing the conflict.

I had this specific issue every time I tried to browse the festival of 3's weapon wendor... or any time I tried to open any inventory window that contained a cestus.

I hate to make you try it... but what fixed it for me was a FULL game reinstall. If you try everything else, and nothing works... I would recommend uninstallling, rebooting, and then reinstalling from scratch.

All I had to do was update the .hak files and I had no problems. (Of course, my only problem is that it was all old files )

I might just go for the drastic route and do a complete re-install. That should clear things out.

I did a complete re-install, tried it out again, but I continue to crash to desktop. I then added the new hak update and .tlk file (4 august), but with no result. As soon as I want to buy a weapon, I crash. I might just start playing and avoid that vendor lol.

That's what I did for a while. If you haven't already, try the new hak that put out. that might fix it.

Did you try cleaning out your override folder?

heck. i crash to the desktop no matter what I'm doing. Walking aroun casually in town and wham... I'm on the desktop again. Not lag related either... there's no logical explanation other than Vista hates NwN

That sucks. I had almost the exact same problem before. I was really confident the reinstall would have fixed it.
If your game install is fresh, and you are up to date with the 1.69 patch, and the newest haks.... it doesnt make any sense that you would crash and others dont. Have you checked on your video drivers and whatnot?

I tried out that other smith shop and crashed there as well when I wanted to see his MISC stuff.

I went to the graveyard area and was attacked by invisble enemies. I also still have 2 spells in my spellbook (cleric) that have no name or description whatsoever. Perhaps there is something wrong with my main .hak file? I only downloaded that one once so far, because it's a fairly large file. I'm going to update to the new hak filed that got released and see if that helps.

I updated my video drivers not that long ago, but ill have a look again to make sure they are completely up-to-date.

The enemies being invisible is a Bioware glitch. Nothing anyone can do about it.

Updating to the new hak might help with the spells and crashing.

Ok... every time I try to get into the tavern, I crash within a halfsecond of hitting the loading screen. Did I miss a certain hak?

I just redownloaded the playerpack patch. I'll see what happens now

WOW... the Sleeping Dragon Inn is absolutely amazing... no wonder my computer didnt want me seeing it, it was trying to hog it all for itself lol

The door outside is on the opposite side of the main room of the redesigned inn. You can either go down (passing the spiffy custom fireplace I made that actually matches the PnP origins of the inn) and across the room, or walk around to the left to reach the door if you just want to go faster.

No no, I mean that quite literally... when i go outside of the inn... there's a lone door...

I just figured that the building got an extraplanar makeover

I replaced the little inn with a nice placeable building pulled from NWN2 by thegeorge. The building should show up fine if you just turn your camera. If it doesn't...then something must be wrong with your video card or CEP files.

I turned my camera and everything. I'm telling you it isn't there on my screen. I can even walk "through the building"
