Make helmet invisible?

I have noticed hints and references here and there on things I have read that suggest there
is a way to change some setting so that your character's helmet will stay equipped and
give its bonuses, etc, but will not cover the graphic for your character's head.

Does anybody know if this is true, and if so, how do I do dat?

I love my helm (headband my butt) of intellect, but its godawful ugly...

No can do. The helm/headband/whatever model actually replaces the model for your head while worn.

Now, if you made a new head model that matches your current one, but with a headband, and is formatted as a helmet, you could use that for the headband of intellect model.

Ambition, anyone?

How many head models are there between all the races and sexes? Not to mentions CEP heads which don't already have a hat or helmet on them... now to think of it, several default bio heads have hats on already.... That'd be quite a task.

I would love to do this. Any idea how I could learn what I need to do?

In earlier versions of the game (or maybe it was my Jurassic era computer), if the user quickly removed and then equipped an item, sometimes they would have the benefit of the item but it would not appear on the character model. This seemed to only work on armor/clothes and helms. I have not been able to replicate it for over a year.

It's funny, most helm's properties common be identified by recognition of their model. Helms of Intellect are the easiest to recognize.

Sorry, I know this doesn't contribute to the discussion. I would just add that I too would love to have helm that doesn't actually obscure my character's finely chiseled cheeks. :-)
