Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
As the favor of Lysis is intended to "cheat death itself" from time to time...
It would make sense that since Petrification is equivalent to death for the most part,
that Lysis' favor could come into play when one of her followers becomes "stoned".

I second that one! By the by, are we speaking from experience? Never been "stoned," myself...

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
Her stoned followers need to cut back on the weed
I see petrification like it is in my PnP game...a condition that, while not good, is not dead...you can be revived at any time by a proper casting of stone to flesh (or a scroll of it). You might have to wait for aid, but unless something is actively trying to destroy you, you're fine until that happens.
I know it may seem a bit more harsh than in PnP because you don't always have a party to help you out, but you can purchase that cloak from Entrom's Exotic Emporium in Macedone to wear when fighting basilisks and other such creatures on your own.
Although instead of a favor of Lysis, it might make a good extra favor of Terris if such a person has racked up enough piety...
And I'll add an item that can de-stone someone that anyone can use on someone that's petrified.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
I am not aware of any monsters in NWN that will not actively try to destroy me once they petrify me
I like to solo. Its one of the reasons I play here. When I get petrified, I am either dead because I have to respawn to keep playing, or I lose access to my character because I have to log out and wait until somebody logs on who I can beg to help me.

Could be worse, they could have improved AI and leave you be once you're petrified. . . it makes for a long long wait.

Beholders.
Oh well, yeah, they *try*, but they really suck at melee, and stop using their uber kill in one round eyebeams once you're stone.... so if you got a regen ring on and no stone busting cape.... go make a sandwich, play with the ferret, take a shower, do the dishes, make some phone calls... Stupid eyeballs! Rocks are for dwarves!

Exactly my point.
Once they petrify you, you're eother dead cuz they *try* to kill you, or you use the respawn option that pops up... *OR* you're worse than dead cuz you cannot do anything until somebody helps you. Usually this means logging off and wiating for others to log on, or not playing until the server resets.
Neither option makes being petrified any better than being dead. The only time it isnt as bad is when you have a party, and for those who enjoy soloing, that is not a consideration.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
I'm considering a change to petrification. It's not a pleasant one, but a change to keep the game going, since I feel like there still has to be a penalty for being turned to stone with noone around to help or with no item to turn you back...
After a set period of time petrified (say 12 game hours...~6 real minutes), a petrified PC is stripped of ALL effects, (beneficial and harmful), equipment is removed, characer is reduced to 1 hitpoint and restored to mobility. It certainly makes it dangerous and possibly deadly, but not necessarily instantly (or incredibly slowly) lethal.
Petrification should be something to be feared, but perhaps with a change like this would speed things along, either toward death ("Ah, I'm moving again...and vulnerable!") or toward returning to life ("I can move again! Time for a potion of escape!").

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
But with a removal of equipment, wouldn't that also remove the potion of escape? Unless you're just talking about equipped equipment ... then what would happen to said equipment? Destroyed by the petrification process, so to speak?
Hmmm ... yet another reason to avoid those floating eyeballs!

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
Not destruction of equipment, merely the unequipping of items carried/worn, placing them into the unpetrified character's inventory.
Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
i dont think removal of equipment is necessary or reasonable.
if there isnt room in inventory, it will end up on the ground, casters will get shafted on their spell slots, andif youre going to make people reduced to one hit point after having them wait 12 game hours, theyre basically a goner anyway, even with their gear. Might as well just make petrify and instakill and be done with it.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
Good points.
Like I said, it's just an idea I was considering. Hadn't even done any coding on it yet as I was looking for opinions.
Let's throw out that idea, and try for another one...
What do y'all think of keeping with a 12 game hour delay (6-8 real minutes), then if not brought back by someone/something: returned to mobility, 20 xp/lvl XP Debt (10% of what death would have incurred), and shunted to the Astral Conjunction?
This one still gives others a chance to turn you back to flesh, gives a small penalty but not even close to death, and the inconvenience of starting back at the beginning if you were in the middle of a dungeon crawl somewhere.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
I ain't sure this here needs any changin...
If there weren't critters out there wut were able ter put the boots ter ye wut would be the point o' adventurin ?
Grab one o' them there magicul cloaks, stow it in a bag o' holdin and quick-slot it ter CTRL-12.
Even an orc could react fast enough ter save their hide when good plannin were involved.
That there Lysis were pokin her nose inter the affairs of other dieties all the time.
This here specifik situation ought ter be the domain of Terris anyway me thinks.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
I think just making pertrify temporary but a decently long duration is enough.
Isnt it enough inconvenience/penalty to be unable to move or defend yourself while something tries to kill your petrified form for 6-8 minutes?
If you survive long enough for it to wear off, shouldnt you have at least a solid chance to survive when it does? Whats the point of waiting that long just to be almost certain to croak/suck an XP loss?
As a side note, beholders are still giving me 3-4xp per kill. That really doesnt seem right to me. I can get the same from fighting orcs.

Re: Partially Used: Favor of Lysis
Just the temporary effect doesn't sound too bad.
Beholders: I just reset the server and added xp bonuses (similar to with trolls) to beholders and Mr. Venger.
