Olympics
I've been watching some parts of the current winter Olympics. I love the Olympics, because they actually televise sports that otherwise would end up on "The Ocho". Sports my kids might have an interest in if they see someone else doing it.
There's only one thing I really don't like to watch...figure skating. It's got to be the most boring sport they show, and it takes up so much time. After you see a couple of people do the same jumps (and spins) and sometimes falls, that's about it. I know they're dedicated athletes that spend countless hours honing their skills, but it's not any fun for me to watch. I leave it on in the other room though, because they sometimes stop showing it to go back to showing more interesting events.
Oh, and I'm sick of the 2 minutes of coverage followed by 2 minutes of the same commercials over and over. If I had my way, they'd show Olympic coverage straight through and show advertising along one side (or the bottom, or one side and the bottom) of the screen...kind of like live sporting events where you see the corporate sponsors' banners during the game, but they don't interrupt the game to show them to you.

here here!
Huzzah!
Just watch out... you leave that skating silliness on the television, and one of the boys might decide he wants to glide around wearing tights.

Re: Olympics
Hey, if Tanya Harding can get away with tights, I reckon the boys can!
I haven't seriously watched the Olympics in ages. Though it is kinda interesting watching it in another country (I'm American, but I live in England). The one thing I remember from watching bits of the Beijing Olympics was the US mens' team winning some relay race, and instead of showing them up on the podium while the Star Spangled Banner played, they ('they' being the BBC) cut to some coach from the UK team talking about why they didn't win. You could see the US guys in the background and barely hear the national anthem as the UK coach talked over it. I was like, 'What? You can't do that to America!'

Re: Olympics
Sorry Amethyst347 but as I have witnessed a decline in "English Patrionism" since I've been growing up I really can't agree that there was anything wrong with that... ... lol.... .... It used to be the once great British Empire, now 90% of British people are actually becoming an Ethnic Minority in thier own country, and as much as I love Americans, some of it is due to the fact that the country is "The USA's biggest overseas airbase".... .... not to mention that most of us are so scared of "offending the minority" and "political correctness" (which has gone haywire) that there really isn't an England (or a Great Britain) left anymore.... maybe someone out there in the BRITISH BROADCASTING CONFEDERATION just felt like America takes all the limelight too much and thought for a second "I'll show them.." ... ..... ..... ....
PS: This was not meant offensively...

Re: Olympics
Media companies will always focus more on things closer to their intended audience. 'Tis the nature of the business.

No offense taken. And I quite like the idea of the BBC guys going, 'Sod this, let's cut to some bloke talking over the American national anthem!' We Americans quite often need to be taken down a notch.
I'm not uber patriotic, but there is something about the Olympics that makes you want to cheer for your team. It's just interesting to see it from another POV (i.e. in another team's country).
