An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
So, my shadowchild monk, like most of my characters, uses the jump widget a lot (it's just so much fun jumping around). I've noticed too that it removes her **visual** shadowchild appearance. And I kinda like her "solid" as it were...
Shadowchildren are supposed to be well... shadowy... but, how about a vc option to controll this. VC shadowchildfade.... by default, the visual works as is. When on though.... during the daylight hours, they are shadowy and see-through as normal, but during night time hours, they become more distinct in appearance.... kinda like shadows are darker, or in a sense, more solid at night/indoors where there's little to no light, while during the day, shadows are kinda faded out because of all the light burning away the shadows.
Note... this isn't to turn off the "20% concealment", just the "see through" visual, and optional as well.

Since the icons tend to vanish, it's also a good visual way to indicate when your bonuses are active when you're in a dungeon without having to look at the clock.

Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
Hmmm...how about this?
vc shadowform - "on" by default, a shadowchild can will himself or herself into a more solid form by deactivating this (becoming visibly more solid and giving up the shadowchild's inherent 20% concealment). If the command is used while "off", the shadowchild returns to his/her normal shadowy form.
I haven't coded it yet, but it's my thought after reading your suggestion.
The "shadowy appearance" is supposed to be tied to the concealment. They're harder to hit because they're harder to see.
And thanks for the jump widget bug report. I didn't know it was interfering with regular visual effects.

Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
I can understand how the harder-to-hit because thy're harder-to-see thing works in-character and in the world.... and is a great concept.... but what I think MJ was hoping for here was an "easier for the player to see" during the daylight hours.... ..... with the right equipment (regen +2 on every item, and vamp regen +3 on twin weapons) and alot of HPs a shadowchild can almost confortable fight during the daylight hours.... the problem comes with actually seeing yourself whilst it is daylight.... ...
I think he was aiming for a player aid, that didn't effect the 20% concealment that shadowchildren get as their inherent right.... ...
However.. from a scripting perspective I'm guessing they get the standard "effect concealment 20%" given to them, which ties together the actual concealment bonus and visual effect... so splitting this may be difficult to achieve.... .... .. ...

Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
Something like that... I was thinking "see-through" during the day... but more solid at night when the darkness and shadows congeal.
I rather like the idea as went with.... when you're solid, no concealment, but you can switch in and out. You see a person sitting in the inn chatting... they look pretty normal. They head out onto the road... bandits try to jump him or her.... she fades into shadows and suddenly the bandits are having a devil of a time hitting them...
On the scripting front... the 'visual' isn't direclty tied to the actual concealment effect. When I make Abigail "solid" by using her jump widget... she still has the 20% concealment. Non-shadowchildren who use a cloak of displacement too... they are 50% concealed, butnot shadowy. Same with path of fog.

Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
On a side note...the see-through appearance always reminded me more of a skulk's appearance rather then shadowy
Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea

Re: An Aesthetic Shadowchild idea
Glitterdust's been in for ages As has faerie fire (although that gives a different see-through VFX rather than removing it)
