how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
ok i may just be missing a very easy thing to do here but how do you set NWN to run in a window instead of full screen? or is it possible?
Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
In the nwn.ini file in your NWN folder, add the following entries under the [Display Options] heading:
FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
I then use alt-enter to toggle between full screen and windowed.

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
I tried this, and I REALLY loved it, for about 3 minutes, wherupon, by video crashed spectacularly. MSN wanted to notify their engineers of my failure lol. Suggested I update my driver, (already updated to the last update, btw). Tried it again, with the same result.
When I changed it back, all was good in mudville.
Just a note to say that I never found "AllowWindowedMode=1" in my display options entries, so I added it underneath "FullScreen=0". Maybe I did it wrong.(?)

Nah, you most likely did it right.... but your video card may not have enough resources (video memory and processing power, independent of your main CPU and Ram) to handle the stress.
It is also possible your main CPU/Ram doesnt have sufficient resources to keep the windows desktop and taskbar visible at the same time as it is servicing NWN's needs.
Long story short, you are probably dealing with a hardware limitation.

Update for this thread:
If you do not wish to edit the nwn.ini file as listed above, you can simply use the following combination on your keyboard:
Alt+Enter
This will toggle back and forth between Windowed Mode and Full Screen Mode.

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
This toggle method only drops NWN to my task bar, not switch it between windowed and full screen =(. I am running Windows 7 so guess I'll try the ini file change.

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
I changed the ini and the ALT+ENTER now works to switch to windowed mode but when I move the window to the 2nd monitor and try to maximize it the Full screen goes back to the laptop monitor. It won't maximize to the 2nd monitor like other games I play do.

Tried inserting width and height under Display Options? =)
Like this:
Like this:
- Code:
[Display Options]
FullScreen=0
AllowWindowedMode=1
Width=800*
Height=600*

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
Thx Angel, getting NWN into window mode works its just that it would not go to full screen on my secondary monitor. To get around this I am switching my laptop's monitor to be secondary only when I play NWN so that I can have full screen on my much larger Samsung monitor =)

I encounter this as well, Drgnwlkr - when I switch NwN to my right monitor and try to maximize it, it pops back over to my left monitor.

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
Full screen mode defaults to the primary display if I remember correctly. The workaround is to make the whatever display is larger your 'main' display. In windows 7 right-click an empty spot on your desktop, choose 'Screen Resolution' and you will see your available displays with numbers on them. Highlight the largest one, then check the box for 'make this my main display' and then click apply.

Re: how to run nwn in a window vs full screen
Thanks Dave, this is what I have been doing to play NWN on my secondary (larger) monitor. Any other game I play such as World of Tanks, I do not have to perform this task. I can minimize or maximize the window at will with them and drag them to whichever monitor I choose. I had hoped there was a way to do so with NWN but it doesn't seem possible without switching which monitor is considered the 'main' by the computer.
