Quickslots

Quickslots
With all of the customization that has occurred with NWN I'm surprised I haven't seen a mod to increase the number of quickslots. It's the one significant improvement delivered by NWN2.
Is there a reason this hasn't been done to anyone's knowledge?

Re: Quickslots
Probably hard coded UI limitation combined with hard coded engine limitation and no way to allow for additional key bindings.
I imagine nwncx might be the only way to create and integrate an additional software layer to allow for translating user input from an externally customized UI to the game engine. Might not even be possible at all... Heckuva lot of coding, too

Re: Quickslots
For those quickslot veterans...
Can you create a quickslot that performs a chat command ie "/tk" and and allows you to add additional information when executed? For a real world example: I'd like to create a quickslot that sends a chat into the shout channel, but the chat content would be determined when used.
Can you create a quickslot "chain?" IE, not just a single action but instead: action1, action2, action3 like: farstep potion, heal potion, teleport
EDIT: sent an inquiry based on Dave's suggestion

Re: Quickslots
No built-in support for custom text macros with variables... Again, much as with the old school MUDs, a properly crafted external client (like nwncx) might be able to work around this somehow.
It would also possibly allow for scripted chains of commands...
I don't really think going that far into automation is needed, and it woulnt actually be a good thing... In all honesty.
Simple reason is because customizable client-side automation opens the can of worms known as "botting", a cancer of online gaming since its inception.

Re: Quickslots
Yeah, quickslots are a pain with so few to use... I tend to prioritise quickslot usage.
F1 - F12... Most commonly used functions/items/spells that are otherwise buried in the menu/bags of my PC's ( I normally use F1 for my primary weapon setup, F8 for primary healing potion/spell and F12 for the sacrificial flame)...
Shift + F1 - F12... Mainly Spells or Feats that are useful but only in certain situations ... (SF1 for primary teleport spell function, SF12 for Escape potion)...
Control F1 - F12... Used for all those "PC functions"... (bedroll, common VC commands, home passwords, select tool etc)...
I also found a great way to "cheat" to get extra slots is to use a custom item/rod ... this gives multiple spells from one slot with just a quick click to change which one is currently assigned.... ...
I see assigning your quickslots as a little "battle strategy" that is involved in NWN... you know you have a limited number of slots, its how you use them that makes them special... if you can get to something quickly using the radial menu use it, save the slots for stuff that's hard to find or selecting from the radial could be the difference between life and death in combat..... ..... ... I think 36 slots is ample enough....

Re: Quickslots
Yeah. I agree with what Rusty says...
Quickslots are all about strategy. Something you have to personalize for each character.

1. Quickslot the rod/item with multiple spells.
2. Hover mouse over the quickslot it's stored in...and right-click on it.
3. Switch spell out with another on the item/rod.
4. Use said spell by clicking the quickslot

Re: Quickslots
Aye, it's a good strategy to use, and it's a little quicker than having to open up the inventory, click on an item, etc.

Re: Quickslots
Yes, the reason why there's not been any additional quickslot mods for NWN1 like there are for NWN2 is in 1, the UI is hardcoded, while in nwn2, the UI is all xml.
A shame NWN1 doesn't have that.... There are just soooo many features in Aenea that would rock with custom windows, extra quickslots, ect.
