Arizona and Wind just did a run through the dark realms... it was quite fun.... we did die several times even (both 40th level PCs, Arizona's ascended, with her gear pretty much 100% upgraded up the yazzoo...and even in basic non-enchanted gear, she is an extremely powerful build.  While she doesn't have the same uber gear as Arizona, Wind's build is likewise very good)....

We got to Horaxona..... and THAT was a a LOOOOONG fight.  Constantly poking her with arrows for over 30 minutes straight, only breaking attack to re-cast various buffs, drink heal potions, use ressurrection scrolls on eachother.... It was fun, it was what an "epic" fight should have been.

And..... ok, Demonbreaker is a very nice axe, don't get me wrong....

But it's pretty much underwhelming  and completely disappointing for several reasons.

1) it's the ONLY treasure for the net effort of beating not just Horaxona, but the Nemesis before her.
2) It's only really useful for STR based meleers with martial weapons proficiency.
3) It cannot be upgraded with crystals, which makes it actually not as great as one might think looking at it.
4) If it's of no use to a given PC..... you can't sell it.

For a super epic weapon requiring 30+ PC level to just hold, and the hardest fight on the server to obtain.... I can grab a regular ol' axe, upgrade it to +5, 1d6 on several damage types, and onhit stun.... overall FAR greater value than +6 and a single 1d10 damage bonus.

Please let the demonbreaker be a valid target for crystals...

And Horaxona needs a better drop in general.  A random +4 tome would be very justified for that battle.  A healthy heap of GP is almost certainly not uncalled for.... maybe a few pricey gems or some other bit of treasure that says "Hey, you just beat the baddest demon in the dark realms! Congrats, and enjoy the spoils (Or at least sell the spoils to recoup the cost of all those asis full heals you likely gulped down for the effort Razz )"

I've been told that the demon queen's axe is cursed, at least in that if you pick it up you can't get rid of it.  So I thought that it was simply something extra special for those who want some cursedness to play off of.

But I agree that for those who don't want that, the loot-wise reward of beating her is underwhelming, and is not any motivation to challenge her.

You don't need to beat Nemesis before Horaxona, it is possible just to run into that door. I believe it is not right, for that big bad guardian of Horaxona, he's just too dumb to forget locking that door Smile
//upd: her weapon is not cursed.

No,you don't need to beat him.  But he drops no treasure or even a single gold piece at all, so if you want something other than a few XP, you gotta beat his boss too Razz

Just did a DR romp with AoD....

Horaxona's not even dropping the axe anymore :-/

And her XP is rather low.  570 for Auger (demonspawn), and a little over 600 for Anna (bright gnome).  Should be much higher I think, at least on-par with the elder brain's XP (around 3K).

Didn't get any loot from her either. And I thought I'd missed something. ;-)
