Level Up?

Hi am a new player and I have looked around for a FAQ addressing this without any luck so please forgive me if I am missing some obvious explanation, but...here is my question...

I created a character, went through all the portals, and arrived at an inn. Right away the game shows that I've gained a level. I click my portrait, select class, etc and then click ok. ...and Poof I've leveled again? but I'm still level one and picking the same class, skills, feats, etc all over again. This just goes on and on. So um...what's going on?

Did you by chance get an error messaage?

Depending on your choice of deity, I believe certain classes are disallowed... what deity did you choose? and what class did you try to level up in?

There are a few leveling limitations right away, such as:

if your patron deity is Zolaras and you are male, you cannot level up as cleric (her priests are all females)

if your patron deity is Andra, you cannot level up as cleric (her priests are druids, not clerics)

if your patron deity is not Dalix, you cannot level up as paladin

Problem resolved.

I have read about a certain bug that prevents a level up from taking effect unless the player "saves" one skill point.

Mr. Thirdside tried this and was able to level up properly.

If it becomes clear that he must continually have 1 skill point unspent, I will catch him before he levels at some point , and raise his INT to give him one extra skill point for that level up, then change it back when he is done.
