Ancient Upates

Do not believe it does; uncertain. It is a Dell 2210, and the info I was able to find was this:

1 x VGA - 15 pin HD D-Sub (HD-15) ¦ 1 x DVI-D ¦ 1 x HDMI - 19 pin HDMI Type A

That's 3 inputs.

I am willing to bet you're likely using the DVI with your new PC. I'm also willing to bet your old PC has VGA. So you should be good to go!

er... maybe this one is easy? The Back & Forward arrows on my browser have stopped working, as well as Refresh, I believe. Any clue to what I have messed up? And thanks for being patient with this Ancient Techless gamer.

Need more detail. Do those buttons looks like they are actually 'clicking' (ie. changing color when clicked etc)? Do you get any error messages, does nothing happen at all, does the wrong page load?

Tis OK now; was forced to make a Hard reboot for another issue, and the brower is working fine now. Thanks!

BTW - another Techie told me to go to the brower, select Tools; Internet Options; Advanced; Reset; Restore Advanced Settings. I may try this if it occurs again.

I attempted another install of a completely different version (ie; not Diamond) of NWN1; same outcome. The GUI does not appear in Win7 on this monitor. As using the XP simulator makes gaming all but impossible, I am wondering if the monitor is the common problem.

Update: I am able to see everything in Window form on the main Win7 screen, but it is still smaller (about 1/3 of full screen). If I enlarge it to full screen size, I lose the GUI.

Went back and reinstalled the Diamond version; same thing. I am able to play in Window format; small but can see the GUI. Is there a way to increse the size of the Window? If I Snap it to full sized, I lose the GUI.

I wouldnt think the issue is related to your monitor, personally. I could be wrong, but I would be investigating video card drivers and settings. Of course, one way to test this is if you have an old monitor you can hook up to see if it displays properly?

Another thing, as I just went and upgraded to win7 myself... I find that my machine runs the game better in win7 mode. It runs smoothly enough in XP mode, but it has minor graphical oddities that are not present in win7 mode. When you say XP mode makes gaming impossible, what do you mean specifically? Does the game run terribly slow or somesuch?

Be sure to check out this information if you havent already.

The XP mode is both small and sluggish. Any newer tileset would have me at a crawl.

It does work much better in Win7, but I still cannot use the standard GUI in full size mode (ie; radial dial still works, but no hotkeys, portrait, and most importantly for m/p; no Chat options. While I could play a mute, not so much fun for every character.

But it is not all bad news; just found this today:

Quick Update: reducing my desktop res to the next lowest recommended setting allows the GUI to appear. Getting better!

If at some point you want to try and work on this together, I can help you set up a LogMeIn account and then use it to remote into your machine and see whats what. I might be able to help tweak settings, etc. Let me know...

Thanks Dave, but this looks good. One of my former playing buddies from a prior server saw my posts on the Bioware forums, and had experienced the same troubles with sim hardware. he tossed a suggestion, and it appears to be working great thus far.

Where I may need help now is getting back into the m/p environment again. I have lost all my NWN 1 muscle memory to DAO, and find myself clicking incorrectly, unable to move the camera properly, etc. Plus no Chat funtionality practice for over a year....

WOOT! Finally! I believe I have all the files, haks, etc, and stopped by for a brief visit to see if there were any error msgs; all looks good thus far minus Storage Chests, it seems.

Barnabas is amply armed, and has much gold, so starting aknew will not be too problematic for him. I just have to get used to the old ways of communicating, and try and learn some new areas, spells, and such.

Good to be back! Thanks to all!

Though it may be some time before I am ready to be playing an Archmage with any real punch, I have started another lowbie to get the grasp of the game, and get to know the lay of the land again. Thus far: Vampire bats = good news; anything else = bad, and run!

Am getting a new rig again, and hoping that the new system will fix the disconnects that have plagued me here for oh so long. I may go for a new NWN installation too, simply trying to avoid any corruption that may have occurred over these many years. Wish me good luck!

Thanks! Love that that thread has been updated constantly; sad that it has been only that long since I used it from the last installation.

I was given a copy of the Deluxe Ed recently, but am now concerned it may not be as complete as needed (ie; may not have v1.69). Would it be better to get a Diamond copy from GOG?

You don't need to do that. Just get the critical rebuild patch and install it. If you want, I can send you a copy of it.

Else, you can always download it using the link so speedily provided in above post.

WOOT! A Techie may have solved my disconnecting issues. After all the calls and checks, this guy finally noticed that in my Advanced ISP Modem settings that it was set to recycle every 20 min; we changed to never. While this may not be the solution I seek, it does seem to be a real viable possibility.

Sometimes it takes a bit of time to figure tech things out. Hopefully you've got smooth sailing from there, O Ancient One!
