I admit, something very similar has been done to me in WoW.

I dont play on a full-pvp server, thankfully... it still sucks having to wait 5 minutes for the PvP flag to turn off... but its much better than being camped for an hour.

Still, my main was pretty nasty in his day... but against a 2-man gangbang, it didnt matter. Very annoying, and not fun.

of course, I have only had to "get my main" a few times... and out of those, with the exception of a couple gangbangs, the camping bugger paid for their transgressions

Ok, I don't play WoW at all, and I don't watch YouTube videos, either - what is this Main that you all speak of?

The alternate - and alternately much more powerful - big brother character that comes back to whoop ass for your weaker, younger brother character.

(BTW Dave, I play(ed) WoW on a PvP server, and yes, camping is a pain, but at the same time, I've had less problems with it than on the non PvP servers. Ironically, both factions usually, when they see each other, target the other in anticipation, but neither will throw the first punch. I guess cause they know they can be hunted down for all of eternity LOL. But on non-PvP servers, they know there's no penalty after the five minutes to take off the flag, so there's no harm in camping a helpless person's corpse)

To me, the big difference is "Recourse".

On a PvP server, if somebody decided to PvP camp you and kill you ad nauseum... your only recourse would be to a) call for help, and hope that when it arrives the camper doesnt call for backup too. b) logg off that charatcer and either stop playing for an hour or so, or play a different character.

On a non-pvp server, you just make sure you dont do anything that would flag you for PvP. If you happen to do so and get killed by a camper, then just wait 5 minutes before rezzing and the PvP flag goes away and you can't be camped.

And sometimes, WoW PvP is just... O_o

I remember this. I lost some self-respect as I laughed a little. <sigh>

And the worst part: there have actually been much worse things done to people on WoW... this is just one of the ones you hear about.

Aside from harassment and abuse in game, theres also the scams where people try to steal other's passwords in order to steal the things players have spent countless hours playing to work to obtain in the game.... items, gold etc. ... and the worthless jerks actually make money by selling that stolen stuff on ebay for real $$ because other folks are silly enough to spend real $$ on it.

Thankfully, Blizzard has been cracking down on the latter... but the former type of ridiculous and unacceptable behavior(such as in the video above) they don't care much about.

I believe a WoW GM put it to me like this once: "If you have a PvP recourse against someone bothering you, then it is unlikely they will be punished for abuse."

That may have changed since, and I am sure it doesn't apply to extreme cases of abuse/harassment... but it always bothered me that just because a person's character can fight back(ie. has the option to attack the antagonizing character) that all is usually considered well and fair... regardless of whether they have any chance to actually win the fight.

Like, somehow, being able to click on the other character and swing a weapon or cast a spell and do a little damage before they utterly slaughter you means that your fun is not being ruined for no good reason.

I can only imagine the debates between the designers at Blizzard about how to handle such things... but in the end, I think their system while imperfect, is not horrible... folks who choose to play on PvP servers need to accept what they are getting into.

I laughed too. It was messed up, but there was still a humorous part, particularly with the soundtrack it had. It made me think of that video posted a long while ago with the griefer kicking people off the side of the mountain.

Yeah, that sort of thing is the reason I don't play online, Aenea being my only exception. People are stupid, no matter what the medium. With the exception of our players.
