Is there any possible way to change your patron deity? I was expressly concerned with this in how it affects me making a paladin/blackguard build seeing as they are limited to specific gods. I know I can change my alignment but this part I am not sure of.

Info from the main website regarding Deities and the Blackguard class.

"Deity Requirement: Ragnor or Sorgath only
- Upon taking 1st level in the blackguard class, a PC will automatically switch to having one of two evil patron deities. If chaotic evil it will be Ragnor, if neutral evil or lawful evil it will be Sorgath."

But yes this does mean there is NO "going back" later , by my understanding... ie you won't be able to use the relevel scales and I think re-incarnation and ascension might be a bit messed also, esp if your starting class was Pally....

Correct.

The only way to change your patron after initial character creation (in the Astral Conjunction at 1st level before ever stepping into the Sleeping Dragon Inn), is to take on the Blackguard class...and there is no changing back.

Once you've dedicated yourself to one of the really evil gods (Ragnor or Sorgath), they won't let you go just to gain more levels in that "goody goody" paladin class. You can use the Cosmic Balance (in Mountainholm Castle) to change alignment, but it won't change your patron deity.

You will still be able to use the re-level scales and go through reincarnation/ascension, but you'd never be able to advance as a paladin. If you started as a 1st level paladin, your character would not be able to advance any more in that class. If paladin is not your first class, you wouldn't even be able to take a single level in it.

Yup, Dalix wouldn't like it if you were a supposedly devout follower (one of her "holy warriors"), only to turn your back on her and take up with a god like Sorgath or Ragnor. She's a goddess of protection and honor...but not necessarily forgiveness.

On that note... why doesn't Harcorth have any blackguard followers? He's the third evil god of Aenea afterall.

Alright, this raises the question for me then that if I ascend/reincarnate unless I have paladin as my very first class I will NOT be able to take it again.

The most obvious workaround I can see is just don't "fall" until you have "ascended". Delay the blackguard levels until after ascension. Otherwise your fateful choice cannot gamed (the gods cannot be fooled so easily.) jocolor

Harcorth is technically evil in the self-centered, thinks he should have more influence in Aenea, spoiled by power young god kind of way. He's perfectly willing to let ships sail the seas in safety (well, without interference from him) so long as he gets prayers and sacrifices.

Harcorth is not as purely eeevil as Ragnor (who's murderously insane and values destruction just for the sake of killing things) or Sorgath (who is nothing short of divinely corrupt and sadistic...this is the one drow want to be like).

Correct. And if you've changed patron deities, 1 level in paladin is all you'd be able to have.
