Paragon
40th level single-classed characters are the ultimate examples of their chosen profession (a paragon), and they automatically get the Paragon feat.
This special feat can be used once per day, and the effects depend on the class of the character. The DC for the effects that allows saves is random, ranging from 25 to 30.
Barbarian "Avalanche Roar"
The paragon barbarian can release a thunderous roar that knocks down all creatures in a huge radius for 30 seconds.
Bard "Enthralling Performance"
The paragon bard can sing a brief tune that is so overwhelmingly interesting to all creatures in a colossal radius that they will become transfixed if they fail a Will save.
Cleric "Gift of the Gods"
The paragon cleric can (if good or neutral) fully heal all friendly creatures within a huge radius, plus provide them with an extra 100 temporary hitpoints.
If the cleric is evil, every hostile or good creature within a huge radius suffers 500 points of divine damage (half if a Will save is made).
This power has no special effect on undead (or PC vampires).
Druid "Ursa Naturus (Nature's Bear)"
The paragon druid can turn into a very powerful dire bear for up to 2 game hours.
Fighter "Endless Battle"
The paragon fighter can use this ability to rapidly regenerate large amounts of damage...50 hitpoints per round for 20 rounds.
Monk "Trap the Mind"
The paragon monk can instantly stun every hostile creature within huge radius that fails a Fortitude save for 20 rounds.
Paladin "Hands of the Holy"
The paragon paladin can call on divine power to entrap all hostile and evil creatures within a huge radius, if those creatures fail grapple checks based on size, strength, and attack bonus. (spell resistance applies)
Ranger "Nature's Bite"
The paragon ranger can call on the aid of natural forces. In this case, every hostile creature within a huge radius will be attacked by a dire bear for up to 1 minute.
Rogue "Ghost Blades"
The paragon rogue has the ability to almost instantly sneak attack every hostile creature within a huge radius, inflicting up to 16d6 damage on each creature.
Sorcerer "Armageddon"
The paragon sorcerer can summon a powerful spell of destruction, harming every creature within a huge radius with 20d6 acid damage, 20d6 cold damage, 20d6 electrical damage, 20d6 fire damage, and 20d6 sonic damage (yes, 100d6 total). Creatures within the area of effect must make separate Reflex saves against each of the five energy types. (spell resistance applies)
Wizard "Disintegration Wave"
The paragon wizard can send out multiple waves of disintegration magic, striking every hostile creature within a gargantuan radius. Each suffers only 50 points of damage if they succeed on a Fortitude save, otherwise they are almost assured destruction. (spell resistance applies)

These look pretty awesome...
The question is, are they powerful enough to induce me to overlook a dip in a supplementary class? Hmm...

Re: Paragon
My cleric did quite nicely without the use of a second class... of course it'd be REALLY awesome if the Paragon feat took a cleric's deity into account, but I find that unlikely...
Even so, awesome none the less. I finally get something to show for being a purist aside from 40 caster levels...

Re: Paragon
It just depends on what you value for your characters. Personally, I wouldn't change a character concept just for a 1/day ability (even if a powerful one like this)...but that's just me. Other people may have a lot more time to dedicate to a character.Maeglin Dubh wrote:The question is, are they powerful enough to induce me to overlook a dip in a supplementary class? Hmm...
I've had characters that were single-classed before, since that career path was part of the character concept. I've also had a character take on two classes for a single feature (it was in-character...an insane fighter that saw someone with wings and wanted them, so he took a level in sorcerer (with an 8 Cha) and levels in RDD, just for those wings).
Re: Paragon
I haven't really analyzed most of them... The one I was mainly thinking of was Druid, wondering if the bear thing is worth giving up a monk dip for ridiculous AC and the unarmed progression of a monk in Dragon form.

The "nature's bear" form gets 50 Str, 50 Dex, 50 Con, 30 natural armor, and DR 50/+20. Very powerful, relatively short duration.Maeglin Dubh wrote:I haven't really analyzed most of them... Yes. Can you say "instant lag to crash"?Maeglin Dubh wrote:Is it bad that I want to cast Nature's Bite in the

Re: Paragon
If you are already a 40th level single class PC, do you need to drop a level and then become 40th again to be able to use the Paragon Feat?
Using Phyllick, I did not see the ability to use "Avalanche Roar" in the radial menus.

Re: Paragon
If you don't already have the Paragon feat, then you will need to either relevel (what a pain!) or have a DM record your current XP, reduce you a level, then restore your XP so you can take that last level again. After that, you should be able to use the feat (it should show as "Paragon", not "Avalanche Roar"...I didn't make 20 new feats, just one).Svair wrote:If you are already a 40th level single class PC, do you need to drop a level and then become 40th again to be able to use the Paragon Feat?

Re: Paragon
Will this feat do something funky with reincarnated/ascended PCs? As far as increased dmg, all that?

Re: Paragon
It probably wouldn't... it's given at 40th level of the class, so it'd most likely be removed like any other class given feat. I relevelled Alastair after the actual feat entry itself went in, and he had it removed until he was back at 40th.

Re: Paragon
No, but what I meant was when a single-classed PC hit 40, got the feat, then reincarnated and hit 40 again ... would the feat be upgraded because this 40 level PC is now reincarnated?

Re: Paragon
, how are the DC's determined in the cases that apply? Alastair's got a DC27 with his paragon ability, which I thought seemed kinda low for a super-epic ability.

Re: Paragon
Yeah... the DC should be around 35ish IMHO. That would be fitting for a decent level 40 ability.

Re: Paragon
I will have to think about Crid going wizard 40 for the disintegrate bit... he is a Transmutation specialist, so it fits him really well. The only thing is, I dont think it will benefit from his epic spell focus feat, and the DC really isnt much better than his 7th level disintegrate spell. Do the DCs incorporate the relevant stat modifiers into the DC or no?
For instance, right now, Crid's Disintegrate spell is 10(base) + 7(spell level) + 6 (epic spell focus) + 20 (casting stat modifier) = DC 43.
For a 1/day AoE disintegrate that caps at DC 30, its just not worth it.
If, however, the 25-30 base DC also added spell focus feats and stat modifier, then it would be worth it.

Re: Paragon
Yes. I dont want to put too fine a point on it, mind you.... but as a DC, for an ability that can only be gotten by hitting 40th level in a single class usable only 1/day, it just really needs to be higher. I can't seem to make it work in my head that this ability is easier to resist than a spell my PC got many many levels before that does basically the same thing but just on a single target.
At max DC30, its just not quite effective on enemies that a 40th level PC will be facing. Im not saying it should always work on every single enemy, but I am thinking it should have a 50/50 chance of working on most level 40 enemies.
Having character build choices make a difference would make sense, too. If the epic spell system scripts are able to check for feats and modify DCs, it should be workable to do that here.... spell focus/greater spell focus/epic spell focus... and then also add in the ability mod... then this ability would assume its rightful place
