Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
After some brain food (Diet Mountain Dew and a big bowl of breakfast (oatmeal, raisins, and shredded coconut)), I end up sitting in the classroom I'm student teaching in. Bored out of my mind, I of course start thinking about Aenea and things to add.
Lucky you. These are now near the top of my to do list:
Revamping teleportation spells (teleport, summon ally, and magehound) to get rid of the gloves in favor of the Select tool and the VC command system.
- Had a mental breakthrough on how to simplify the code AND make it flexible.
- Casters (wizards, sorcerers, clerics, and druids) will get 50 "slots" for teleport locations and 25 "slots" for other PCs for summon ally and magehound.
- Non-casters will get 20 "slots" for locations and 10 "slots" for other PCs (for those using scrolls/items to gain the spells without investing in caster classes)
- You'll be able to easily get a list of all your location or PC slots and what's in them.
- Save on inventory clutter! Stay organized!
Character Reincarnation
- For level 40 characters only
- Give up basically everything gained for a restart with some bonuses.
- Restart at 1st level with 5,000 XP and 1,000 gp
- Get skill (+5) and save bonuses (+1), plus scaling spell resistance (1/level)
- Get regeneration (1/round)
- 1d4 divine damage added to unarmed attacks
- add 1d4 divine damage to main-hand weapon several times/day
- Subrace changes to "Reincarnated"
- New feats added at 1st level just for the Reincarnated
- - - Gift of Flight (fly like a winged being for 3 hp/flight)
- - - Gift of Travel (teleport 2/day)
- - - Gift of Time (a semi-timestop in an area for 1d6 rounds 1/day...enemies get a Will save (DC 10 + 1/2 reincarnated's new levels) but no immunity/spell resistance)
Character Ascension
- For level 40 reincarnated characters only
- Subrace changes to "Ascended"
- As reincarnation, but also gain:
- - - immunity to death magic, disease, poison, and critical hits
- - - fire/cold resistance 10
- - - divine damage increases to +2d4
- - - skill bonuses increase to +10, save bonus increases to +3
- - - access to the "levitate" combat style normally given only to epic Wiz/Sor

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
Sweet!
Can a Reincarnated character be reincarnated again once they each 40th level? Will those bonuses stack?
I'm looking forward to this...
PS I might have to put in a "Suggestion" for Bards (the wandering minstrels!) class for the number of teleport slots they should get...

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
Reincarnated characters, after they reach level 40 again, will have the option to "ascend" instead of reincarnating again (basically the same thing as the first reincarnation, but with improvements). I don't plan on anything beyond ascension (hey, it's 120 levels of fun already).
More slots for bards...perhaps. The larger number of slots for primary casters is mainly to reward them for taking classes that would get those spells without resorting to items (summon ally for Clr/Drd/Sor/Wiz, teleport and magehound for Sor/Wiz). After all, the caster classes that get those spells should be the ones that benefit the most from them.

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
I'll agree but how about the rogues that actually concentrate in Use Magic to mimic the caster's? ... or the often forgotten casting power's of Rgr and Pal ?
Or for the few, the Shadowdancer's completely non-existent Shadow Jump/ Dimension Door...
Or the winged races with such high constitution they should be allowed to fly from one local to another local (teleport), say Macedone to Mt.Holme to Tradeholme, to Calithia.....
Oh, don't get me wrong the idea's sound ace, just as it stands I really like the whole glove set up.... ...
And the reincarnation/ascention ... kudos, thats is just brilliant, as if achieving 40th lv wasn't a mighty acomplishment, 120th ?.... do the player reward chests get reset?... Or a your actually 60th, so have a present..
Hmm flight... ... launching dias' around the world linked to each other in the form of area transitions... would that work?... you can take off here, and land there....the higher you are the further you can travel.. ?,, maybe that should be a suggestion....

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
Question on reincarnation/ascension...
How exactly would taht work? Would the character be knocked down to level 1, or will it be a fresh new character with new starting stats, new initial base class, ect?
And with subrace changing... would they retain their old subrace stats as well? Like would Aurora, if she reincarnated, cease being a drow and become a normal elf with just the reincarnated subrace stuff? Or would she be reincarnating as an entirely new being of a different race?
Onto teleport stuff...
Since bards do have summon ally as a spell (like clerics), would they still be considered not a caster class for the extra slots?
And would we be able to swap out set slots? Particularly with summons... I got gloves attuned to some characters which haven't shown up in a long while (hell, I think Alastair still has Grog attuned to a glove, and he's been MIA for months and months now)
Overall, I like the reincarnation idea, and the general idea of not having 5 bags full of gloves, I like even if it might mean less teleport locations

Slots:
teleport: (for teleport)
Sor/Wiz: 50
everyone else: 25
ally: (for summon ally and magehound)
Brd/Clr/Drd/Sor/Wiz: 25
everyone else: 12
New commands posted in the VC faq. Slot setting/clearing will be functional after the next reset tomorrow morning.
I've got almost everything scripted for it (yes, in one night). Just got to test it out myself before springing it full-force on the rest of the world.
After I make sure it all works properly, I'll script in a way to copy settings from existing gloves to the slots with the same numbers.
As far as reincarnation, the "reincarnated" subrace will be a new one that basically erases your old one. You'd get all the benefits granted, but without a subrace xp penalty.
It's the same character, just brought back down to 1st level, then given the goodies.
So Aurora would look the same, but she would be "purified" physically when reborn...losing the drow vulnerability to sunlight and other traits from her drow heritage. She'd still be evil as ever, with some powers to help her on her way back to dominance.

Oh man, just what we don't need, a MORE powerful Aurora! Just as evil, twice the power!

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
hehee... don't tell her she'd be "purified" of her Drow heritage.... she's obnoxiously proud of being one
Sounds great though... puts whole new twists on the characters and their personalities, and how they would change over time.
And Jay asked a good question.... do the reward chests get reset, and our current custom items go poof? Put away in some out of reach locker until we achieve a certain level/time goal, or something else? Would almost seem a shame to have the old man's walking stick go poof forever, never to poke at the roads and trails of Aenea ever again

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
I got to thinking about that last night as well, by the time one reaches level 40 you've obtained a awful mighty amount of gear, gold and such. And after reincarnation it's all stripped and your left with 1000 gold pieces and you've lost that amassed gear? That's kind of a bummer. As some if not most of the items are hard fought and saved, at least in my case as a bit of a trophy of sorts. And what about player housing? Do you also lose your keys? Just wondering how this will all work out.

99% of the stuff my 40's got, it can be gotten again. I'm just curious about the voucher things myself, and I suppose those talon scales for the heroes of nektaria PCs running around... the actually unique stuff which won't be found in a shop or in loot drops

Re: Aren't you guys (and gals) lucky?
I have a plan in place for dealing with custom reward items. They'll remain, but will be non-useable until you once again reach a suitable level for using them.
The reincarnation is intended as basically a "rebirth in rejuvenated form", rather than a simple re-level.
