Veenkar asked in another thread if masterwork items themselves shouldn't be craftable. I think this is actually a pretty neat idea. It'd be a good thing for non-magic crafters to have as well. Use something like the default NWN craft system, but instead of only being able to craft mundane armor/weapons, allow the ability for those with enough craft skill to create masterwork items.

Or- depends on the skill - even masterwork items +X (+1, +2 etc), also with some minor abilities (light, DR 1/5 or so) so the enchanters could enchant a better item than just an empty one.

That would provide a great co-operation to enchanters and crafters

Imagine:
a warrior making a DR 1/5 masterwork robe for the caster so his robe of eyes could be more powerful and for the exchange the caster enchants his masterwork sword +3 with electricity so it is either +3 and deals elecro damage

Crafting of non-magical items is in the works already. Smile It's currently being designed in an Excel file so I can organize base materials, skill checks, etc.

If you have ranks in Craft Weapon, you'll be able to make weapons. Get a high enough skill check (a random d20 + skill ranks and bonuses) and you'll end up with a masterwork one instead of a normal one.

Same with masterwork armors.

Other items will be craftable too...potion bottles, bone wands, scrolls, books.

I'll be making use of raw materials again (not their "special powers", just the items themselves) to build from. Even making some building materials out of things like iron ore, wood, and animal hides. It'll run off the VC system, but will have a "help file" in the default crafting radial conversation.

Nothing magical about this type of crafting, but it will make mundane items and masterwork (enchantable) items available for anyone that wants to craft.

Or buy the stuff from someone else. The Mines of Tesh will get some extra iron ore, other mines will be opened up, and workshops will be places PCs like to hang out in. I'll also make it so that NPCs like Darla will buy metal ores or bars from PCs. Some materials, like a nice piece of oak wood (for many items) can be found randomly just by wandering near forested areas with the "collecting" option turned on. Wink

I could have sworn I'd put them into some shops, but I can't find them...they'll show up in the near future.

I think some items that are currently considered magic items are non-magical. This includes dragonhide, ankheg plate, and certain other specific armor items made from hides, scales, and bone.

It says on some servers they are, and others that they aren't, but I like the idea that a select few 'elite' items could be crafted without worrying about taking a enchanting feat. Afterall, in most games non-spellcasters easily craft such things, so why not here?

Also, I've noticed alot of materials have existed for a long time (iron ore being one). I still think alchemical ingredients for making grenade-like weapons and poisons should exist, or maybe make poisons stand alone on their own without ingredients.
