I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
My mouse is having troubles, and it is getting worse. The cursed cursor stops moving, and the sound indicates the same signal as if I unplugged the device. The best I can do is shopping and that is a chore, and combat is all but impossible other than standard H&S. So I guess my time will be limited until I get this bug in the system repaired or replaced.

Have you considered feeding you mouse to a cat and replacing it with a newer model?

This is my secomd mouse in about as many years. And due to a moving event, I cannot locate the manufacturer info, and also do not seem to be able to do simple things like update drivers.

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
What type of mouse are you using?
A] You can buy a mouse on line [so that you don't have to leave your house].
B] It may need a bit of cleaning [depending on what type of mouse you have].
C] Reinstall your CD for the mouse [if you have one].
D] Take a hammer and smash it, then refer back to suggestion A.

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
It is a standard ball mouse, optical mouse, or laser mouse?
If the system is giving a sound that it is unplugged, that would seem to indicate it is a USB mouse, as windows systems generally do not re-poll PS2 ports (the other type of mouse connector) after startup and it usually takes a reboot to correct PS2 mouse issues.
If the mouse is indeed a USB mouse, it may have something to do with yout computers onboard USB ports. Before you give up on the mouse, try connecting it to other USB ports, and if that doesnt work, then try testing any other USB device in those same ports.
If another USB device works fine then it may indeed just be a failing mouse.

It is either an optical or laser mouse (ie; it has a red light); not wireless. And I believe it is USB (ie; plugs into back of system).

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
Are you using it on a clear or (even slightly) reflective surface? I had experienced similar issues when doing so; an impromptu mouse pad (go PHB!) cleared it right up

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
Does it plug in with a round circular connector with little pins in it ?.. Or a flat block connector.. (the round one's usual also coloured green, the flat will be silver with a little white "pad" in it)...
The first type is a PS2 type , the second type is a USB type...
The PS2 type will usually re-boot (and re-load any drivers) each time your PC is switched on... for the USB type you may need to manually update the drivers.... (they may be out of date, (usually after a windows system update) and 90% of the time won't auto-update)...

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
I have the same thing happen with my mouse, usually at very specific areas of the game. For whatever reason, I quickly lose the ability to control the game cursor (even though my laptop touchpad works fine). It's weird - it resembles a feedback loop between PC and peripheral, but I'm pretty sure this is not the case.
Sometimes just pulling out the USB receiver and plugging it back in works (once I leave the area of the game), or even resetting the connection between the mouse and receiver helps. For what's worth, even though the battery has lots of life to it, sometimes replacing it works. At least for me.

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
Results: It is the USB type. The mousepad had been an issue in the past, so I am good there (do NOT use various reds as a color scheme). The problem occurs out of the game, too. I have re-plugged the unit many times to no avail.
And the driver update directions are rather .... unclear as to how one is to unplug the device, then right click on any options after that device has been unplugged.
Have I said that I hate Tech?!!!

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
okay sorry.. ye running Vista or XP.. (or some other system).. I'll attempt to put a guide together using only the keyboard to navigate...
(the tab key normally acts as "auto-mouse",((taking you to your first "option")), in conjunction with your cursor keys and enter/return as a standard left (double) click ... with shift+enter/return acting as right click... alt+F?? usual provide many shortcuts direct to common used menu steps in the window you have open....
It's been ages since I had to use full keyboard controls to update mouse drivers.. so it may take me a while (saying that of course is if your running vista - I don't own any machines with xp (or other)on anymore to test my path out...)...

I am sorry of my comment was seen as snippy. In no way was that intended. Simply forgot to add a smiley of some kind, as I truly am really, really Techless. It seems that I rarely understand Tech, or run into a wall the majority of others seem to avoid with ease; reason I hit bugs in game that others do not.
I was intending to ridicule the self-diognostic directions of my own system, as I have already attempted to try and update the drivers more than half-dozen times.
I run XP. I also tried switching ports with the keyboard, but then neither seemed to work. My next attempt will be to try and switch with my old mouse, but I fear it is dead or near death, as I recall.
And thanks to all that are trying to help this Ancient One rejoin the game.

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
You could always hit the nearest Walmart and buy a new 20$ mouse... It would save you the trouble and headache of trying to fix it.
If you plan on getting a new Wireless USB mouse, I suggest getting a Logitech. I use a Logitech USB mouse as the first one I had lasted a long time and didn't chew through batteries either. My newest one (also a Logitech) has given me no problems and I replace the battery so infrequently that I almost forget that it even needs them. Typically, they also don't need driver updates, which is always a helpful thing as well.
I do hope that it gets resolved, as I'm not sure I can think of a more frustrating thing that your mouse not letting you play the game that is right in front of you. (I tried playing without a mouse... it wasn't easy and was more frustrating than fun, so I feel your pain)

I heartily agree with teh kitten on this one - my logitech mouse in the basement and the wireless wave keyboard/mouse combo in the living room are going strong - much, much better than that poor old Microsoft mouse that recently passed into the tote of justincaseparts...evilkittenofdoom wrote:If you plan on getting a new Wireless USB mouse, I suggest getting a Logitech.

Never saw the point of no wires? I don't much care for wires, and if you're willing to invest in a couple of AA batteries every 6 months to 1 year or so, it's not a bad road to hit...

Re: I Hates Meeses To Pieces!
I would go with a logitech wireless, then go and invest in some rechargeable batteries [like Energizer]. Which has a package deal of 2 pairs and a charger for like $20.00. This way you won't go thru batteries like mad.
I had my logitech wireless mouse for over 2yrs and had no troubles at all. I bought the mouse at Circuit City.
