Alundaio's NWN launcher!!

Alundaio made a new and snazzy launcher for NWN with LOTS of nice features and a lot less hassle than the default Bioware launcher.

-You can save the addresses of the servers you play on, along with any player or DM passwords needed.

-You can log in with a single click, (though there is no way around the Bioware account log in screen).

-You can customize the buttons to have names and banners of your choosing, and the banners can be clicked to open the server's website!

-You can make it so the launcher doesnt close when you start NWN, so if you need to relog for anyreason, when NWN closes, the launcher will be there waiting for you

-You can also use this lovely little program to store and rename your chat logs, and even to open and run the CEP updater!

-It also allows you to open the Toolset or the regular Bioware opening screen, all from the same little window!

Just added a link to this on the main site's downloads page.

New version available. Some notable changes include:

-Added CEP update button to the main launcher menu.

-Changed the graphics for the mouse-over effect on buttons.

-Changed the Options layout.

-You can now "swap" the override folder with another one. It original folder name will be restored when swapped out again.

-You can also now "swap" out the dialog.tlk file also.

-Fixed somthing with logging not renaming more then ClientLog1.txt, Supposidly nwn numericly creates more if the file size gets too large. Didn't know that...

Due to a suggestion I added the swaping ability. It's a really nice feature if you like to change your override folder alot (To play on different PWs that require certain overrides). So it's really not a Must have version unless you want these features. Enjoy!

I'm thinking about adding in the ability to easily change the text colors for chat. What do you think, eh? And thanks Dave for the kind review.

New Version available...again. I had to change something with override swapping. Apparently you can change the pointer to the folder in the nwnplayer.ini, in which I didn't realize. So instead of my folder rename/swapping method it just edits the nwnplayer.ini and changes the pointer to the new folder.

Changing the GUI font style and color is now possible via the options. You can also change the background color of the Options menu and the Launcher itself.

Also, Since I really didn't want to release another update in such a short time, I decided to include the ability to change the chat colors and trap colors via the Options (In which I stayed up all night to do. At least I learned a few new things about RGB values and conversions).

---New Version 1.11---

Added an Update Launcher button to a tool-bar in the Configuration Menu. It will check if there is a newer version and then ask if you want to download it. Now I no longer will have to inform anyone of an update.

I removed Banner size restrictions. Also, I made new pretty icons in Gimp. They have background transparency so they will go nice if you decide not to have a black background color.

I changed a lot of things within the code (Either trying to test new things or making it more efficient). So if you do find bugs please let me know.


Here is a nice new banner I made for myself. You can use it too if you like. Run the Nwn Launcher and goto Configuration -> Banner Options and click the Banners button to open your Banners folder. Right-click on the image above and save as "Aenea.png" to your desktop. Drag-N-Drop this newly created image to your Banners folder. Go back into the launcher and type Aenea.png into the banner field for the correct server in Server Options.

Alundaio, I posted an issue with the launcher on it's page - do you want me to post my problem here as well?

Thats strange. Tell me exactly what you are doing. The Icons used are 64x64 ICO files. If you want to replace say for example Icon_1. You have to replace it with another Icon name Icon_1.ico. If that doesn't work correctly you may have to open the original and copying the new image over to it in a program like Gimp. Removing the old layer and then saving. This way it will have the same exact format as the orginal.

Also, try deleting the Icons folder before reinstalling.

Hey, Alundaio! Don't worry, I figured it out - had to open up gimp and do something to the icons. I don't know what I did, but it worked out! Thanks anyways!

I have a sneaking suspicion that Eric's PC's have equally messy inventories.

That desktop doesn't look messy. I think his wallpaper makes all the shortcuts harder to see/read. It doesn't look as bad as mine as far as clutter.

But then, I'm not sure how many people work on half a dozen custom content projects at a time, with multiple working folders and compressed collections and hak files and multiple versions of 2da files and work-in-progress photoshop files and...

Yeah, I should do some spring cleaning.

Oh those are the Nwn2 icons. Notice how my border is similar...So that's where Exhumed got that border to make all his Mega Games Icon Packs... (I stole that border from a fallout2 Icon he made)

Funny you mention that. I was going to actually add the ability to dock buttons onto the launcher that can launch any application you want. But I been busy playing this other game.

I was planning on making my own docking tool (Doubtful that I will). I actually am almost done with most of the simple functions I need to add that feature to the launcher. Since I was writing all the functions in the form of a library, it will be quite easy to implement into it and any other future application I write.

No need for bribery. I like making simple apps as a hobby. It's quite an addicting one at that.

So if you ever need a program to do simple stupid things like rename a whole folder of files to another extension, etc. I'm your man!

Again I ask, what must be done to get dock functionality?

I've downloaded ver 1.11 but must have done something wrong because it does not launch.

Nevermind, I had it in wrong folder heh.

It is truly an awesome utility! I just find myself longing for the docking function - as dave stated earlier, a link to worldgate would be spectacular!

I need a little help with this application.

First, is this launcher compatible with NWNCX? I'm usually launching with the NWNCX Loader nowadays, so I'd like to keep the NWNCX working. If this NWN Launcher can work together with NWNCX, I'd appreciate someone telling me how to make sure that happens.

Then, the issue as Dragonwlkr raised above about putting the exe in which folder. I presume that the source file can be put anywhere and executed, right? It made a directory in the program files directory upon install, so as far as I can see that seems in order.

There was a bug with installation on my system though, that you might want to know about (XP, if that matters). The install window hung, even though it seemed to have properly installed its directory in the program files. I would have thought that it would have executed itself at this point and opened the Launcher, but it didn't. I had to shut my computer down to terminate the installation window. Tried it again, and again, and three times it hung and I had to shut down my computer to close it.

So, after that I just went into its program directory and executed the Launcher, and it looked right enough so I proceeded with entering infos.

Thus I arrived at my biggest issue here, which is, I don't understand how to configure (Configuration tab) for swapping the override and dialog.tlk folders for each PW entry. The info in the readme file was insufficient, and clicking on either Swap Override or Swap Dialog.tlk just gives me an error of 'folder does not exist'.

So could someone please explain this to me?

Thanks for your help with this, Manny. Now I have enough to go on to make tests of the swapping function.

And I'm going to look into using the 'patched nwnmain.exe' version of the NWNCX launcher, to see if I can make this Launcher work with NWNCX.
