Rare Drops

What's the approximate drop rate for some of the super rare/nice items, such as the +2 cha headband, or +3 tomes, or +8 or higher items?

I'm curious because I and several other players have simply -never- seen such items drop, and between 5 or 6 players with multiple epic level characters hunting high end baddies, it would seem to us that at least one of those really nice items would have dropped at least once for somebody over the course of the last year or two, but the only way we seem to see these is as DM event rewards (which is good, but not so much for those who don't get to participate in such events)

Searching the forums, I saw an old post by about adding CHR enhancing CROWNS ! I've never seen one of those even at a DM event. Do they really exist? The epic party gnome is drooling.

To clarify, Ua, Dave, Manny, and myself got together and compared notes over the things that we know, theoretically, exist in the world, but between multiple epic-level characters and hours of grinding various mobs (not just beholders, because it was a long time before Ua and I even knew about them, and we still go for diversity in our slaughtering when we can) we've found nothing.

I can say that in the (nearly two) odd years that I've been playing in Aenea, I've not seen many of the "exist in the pallette but no-where in the world stuff"..... we're talking about any tomes above +2 (bar str/con found at shivani's school).... weapons that are +6 upwards (bar the empowered 1/4staff / impaler/ hope/ reaver/ withering staff) .... items with +8 ability (bar gron's str+8 belt) .... ... ... ultra rare weapons and armours with unique spells...

I've got to say my PC's have covered 90%ish of Aenea ( I think) and repeatably revisit "old" area's to see whats new, or different with another class.... I can't find these items either... ?!?!?

Nor have any of my pc's run across any of the things mentioned as around but not around.

Shoot, I haven't even come across the +3 Str and Con books people are always talking about; I get thrilled when something unusual, not even necessarily powerful, just unusual, turns up in a shop lol

At this point I am fairly certain that the ultra-powerful epic loot is simply not in any of the enemy loot tables. If I am wrong, then the drop rate is still WAAAY too low.

We should be seeing enhancement items up to +10 for all stats, books up to +6 for all stats, and some weapons with greater than +5 enhancement of various and sundry types.

Not all items are in random loot drops. Some are specific to certain NPCs. Some are found via "hidden item triggers" (which don't show a visible Search check unless you succeed). Some are not in general circulation. Some I'm hanging on to for now as I plan on working them into the world.

The most powerful "stat books" go up to +5. Weapons/armor found in-game will (in most cases) never exceed +5...and many will be less than that, since by now I'm assuming that most folks serious about getting to +5 will be increasing their favorite items to +5 themselves anyway with time (just like I assume that most characters' weapons and armor are treated with all six enhancing crystals by the time they hit 20th level).

If there's an NPC somewhere with some of these items that neither Manny, Dave, Ua, Rusty, or I have killed, he's hiding REALLY well.

Well, it could be a "friendly" NPC. With my evil lot, I tend not to kill off any NPCs other than nobody commoners (with the exception of the quickly respawning SDI regulars).

And with my neutral/good characters... they're just not into killing non-hostile PCs unless it's making them go hostile on accident via AoE or faction fubar.

More loot to steal or to get off of good npcs would be interesting. I know I love wondering around Macedon picking everyones pockets with Noric and have more good npcs to assassinate would be great.
