Newly Arrived
A friend and I came into Aenea for the first time last night.
Umm ... wow ... just ... wow.
We've flitted from PW to PW for some time now looking for a home. We think we may have found it. We've found some great worlds, but none of them have been a good ... well, "fit," I guess would be the proper term. Deciding to give a non-FR world a try for a change, I skimmed the top-ranked worlds on the vault.
"Hey, isn't that one done by the same person responsible for the colored icons which belong in everyone's override folder? If nothing else, it'll be colorful."
Upon appearing in the bar, we just spent a little time soaking in the beauty. Reading the job board, it looked like scripted adventures were to be had if no one else was online (and a light-hearted impression was left by the board ... a welcome change from the "more-intensely-serious-than-real-life-for-the-sake-of-immersion" that is found in many worlds). Named NPC's had descriptions and usually something to say other than the "stock" responses used by so many humanoid-shaped placeables. We had previously learned that crafting was logical but simple (compared to some CNR systems) from the forum. Different ... but we can unlearn. The chat commands are flexible but can be a little overwhelming. What the heck ... we'll learn what needs to be learned. As soon as I saw the largest camping kit I've ever seen, I was completely in love.
I did learn a bit too late that oxen were only rented (even without a server reset ). Ah, well ....
The jury's still out. We played close to four and a half hours with no one else online. Two other players made a brief appearance somewhere in the world and then popped out. We had great fun, though. Probably just a bad night/timezone, but still a bit worrisome.
We look forward to meeting you all.
Unless we end up hating y'all (or vice versa), of course.

Re: Newly Arrived
Traffic is currently low due to school being in for most folks.
If you want to shoot me a message on AIM, I'd be glad to join you and possiblt bring a few Beuttlerians along.
Best thing about this server is that you're free to do basically anything you want. PVP is out, since that tends to just promote bad feeling when handled poorly, as many people do, but anything else is fair game, provided you're not actively disruptive.
Want to run everywhere? Cool. We all do anyways. Being required to shift+click everywhere on RP servers bugs the hell out of me.
Want to make your own faction? Done. Just tell us the name. Don't need any approval or anything. The Beuttlerians are a warrior nation that we just made up, and we're now a well-known and respected aspect of the community, without having to ask anyone's permission.
Want to take a prestige class? Go ahead. Nobody's going to stop you. (Just visited a server recently that required DM permission for any PrC, and they're apparently strict; only one Shadowdancer in the last 5-7 years, I'm told.)
Basically, Aenea rocks, because ad lets us rock it, and doesn't really care how we do so. (Provided we don't break anything. Quaking Chorus in the Growing Skeleton room counts as breaking.)

Welcome!
I, too, can vouch for Aenea's coolness. Everyone here is lovely and friendly and helpful. The actual world is pretty cool as well! We even have a resident Party Gnome.

Re: Newly Arrived
Welcome to Aenea. I think, if you take your time to explore and meet other folks (our online numbers have slipped lately, but that is mainly due to RL interference for a bunch of us) I am very, very confident you will find it enjoyable.
For me, the thing that made me fall in love when I first got here was how I was allowed to play my character how I wanted (as long as it didnt interfere with others doing the same) and that I was eventually able to make my character an actual "part" of the gameworld. I bought an in-game house, created my own unique custom items, etc. It was refreshing and fun... it captured my imagination in totally unexpected and pleasant ways.
I hope you have a similar experience, and if I can help to make that happen, I will. As will just about every other player in our community.
Again, welcome!

Re: Newly Arrived
Welcome! I noticed you and your friend logged into the server last night, but just before I could log in to give an official welcome, one of my twins decided to wake up crying with a stuffy nose (they're 6 months old and have this habit of limiting any long stretches of NWN time ).Gwydion669 wrote:A friend and I came into Aenea for the first time last night.

I try to run NWN Aenea kind of like my PnP Aenea...somewhat challenging, but at the same time with little bits of in & out of character humor thrown in. Just wait until you find yourself a wand of invisibility.Gwydion669 wrote:...a light-hearted impression was left by the board ... a welcome change from the "more-intensely-serious-than-real-life-for-the-sake-of-immersion" that is found in many worlds
Hmmm...the oxen should persist up until a server reset, rejoining your party when you talk to them. When was yours lost?Gwydion669 wrote:I did learn a bit too late that oxen were only rented (even without a server reset )
I just changed this place in the toolset last night. Assuming I did the coding right, the growing skeletons should now just stand back up after dying (up to a random number of times), rather than instantly spawn two for every one that dies.Maeglin Dubh wrote:Quaking Chorus in the Growing Skeleton room counts as breaking.
