Music that takes you back... Empty Music that takes you back...

Music definitely leaves an impression on people, and some find it can alter moods and help connect memories.

I mention this because I'm sitting here working in the toolset, listening to part of my rather eclectic collection, when a song starts that instantly brings back memories of my early teen years. Smile Wild Thing (Tone Loc). A few notes into it and boom...back in 8th grade, chillin' with friends, listening to what, at the time, was not intended for my age group. Twisted Evil Sure, now it'd be considered a very tame piece, but this was more than 20 years ago.

Knight Rider theme...that one takes me back even further. Cool Even got a version of it I still listen to [Knight Rider Theme (Techno Remix) - Crystal Method].

Yup, I was one of those "children of the 80s".

Then another comes on. Closer (Nine Inch Nails). First few weeks of freshman year of college. A friend of mine mentioned she also thinks back to the same time and place when she hears that one, and another song I wouldn't let my kids listen to. Evil or Very Mad Smile

Then there's the kind of stuff my kids (ages 1-7) are listening to these days (because it's what myself and the wife listen to)...select pieces by Linkin Park, Finger Eleven, Marilyn Manson (80s covers), Cake, Foo Fighters, Vanessa Mae (violin), Weird Al (funny and damn smart), Crystal Method, Queen (you don't get more "classic" than this), Fatboy Slim, White Stripes, Beastie Boys, Evanescence, Moby, Kid Rock, Green Day, No Doubt (there's something about Gwen's voice), some country stuff my wife listens to when I'm not around, some classic Janet Jackson, Madonna and Michael Jackson (back when his music was better known than his personality), Rob Zombie (stuff from The Matrix films), various popular 80s pieces (and more recent covers of some of them), old 50s & 60s songs (ok, it's the grandparents that play that stuff for them, but its still some good stuff there) and more... My older boys' first real introduction to something with a strong beat was repeats of Confusion (that long techno song from the movie Blade, when he's in the slaughterhouse/nightclub at the beginning, ripping through vampires)...these kids are not going to be the type to listen to one artist or genre obsessively when they get older. Very Happy

I caught one of my twins starting to dance (rocking forward and back in his chair) to music on one of the PBS kids shows that the 4 year old was watching. Time to break out more of the techno collection, methinks. pirat

What music takes you back? Specific songs? Various artists? Are there any that always take you on a trip through your memories?
