Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Well, I'm quite certain I've got everything I need to run Aenea. 89% of the CCP is downloaded, and I'll be installing it shortly.
I'll probably do some sort of Human Ranger/Rogue crossover. PRC to be determined. Possibly go for Shadowdancer for the utility. Use a double sword with seven levels of Ranger for both combat bonuses, and three levels of Rogue for some Sneak Attack and the class skill in Tumble for Shadowdancer, then finish up with ten levels of Shadowdancer. Otherwise, just enough for HiPS, then put the rest in Ranger for the better BAB.
Thing is, I've got this all mostly figured out.
But I have no clue how to connect.
So my first question is... How do I connect to Aenea?

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Welcome to you, Maeglin Dubh. I am Eric of Atrophy, and I hold a post as assistant DM. If you ever need anything while you are in-world, myself (as Dungeon Mistress Anaurra Lide), the other assistant Dm daveyeisley (as Dungeon Master Mythgar) or the big DM himself and the mastermind behind the whole scene, the Amethyst Dragon (as The Amethyst Dragon) can help you out. Welcome aboard!
I hope that you find Aenea to be an engaging, lively and decidedly immersive server. Amethyst Dragon has put in lots and lots of time to make a world for us to galavant around in, and Aenea has attraced a growing base of really, really nice folks to game with. Whether you prefer soloing or just can't play without a group, you'll find a little of both here.
Again, welcome, and we'll see you online!

Cloaks (and mantels) prevent HP loss due to cold. There is an old cloak where you first come into Aenea proper, and several local merchants sell them for a GP. In a wide range of colors as well!

To shout just click the talk box on the left of your chat bar in game and choose shout. As far as pm's you can click on the player tab under your portrait in the upper right and just highlight the player you want to pm then click the talk button, I do believe it is the one on the left (the one with 2 faces). If I remember correctly that should be the jist of it. See ya in game.

Ok, thanks.
And hopefully I'll be able to get in the game sometime Tuesday for a good spell. Monday's are nasty for me here.
How do the Reward items work? I downloaded the module and made a nice piece of armor, just not sure when I'll get it.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Welcome to Aenea.
Custom items are a possible reward for time played as your character. Once you get a custom item voucher, you can jump into the toolset and create something (although it sounds like you already have).
Send me the ERF file and I will check the item and add it to the game. Once that happens, a script will automatically swap the voucher for your item as you leave the Sleeping Dragon.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Well, I know how to make it. I was wondering more how you earn the voucher, and if it's based on time played per player,or per character.
Because I'm playing an experiment right now, and I would hate to get some reward items for him and then have to take so long to get any with a character I like more.

I'm currently playing a Sea Elf Rog1/Rng1, so exp gain is painfully slow... but that gives me more time to learn the systems.
Question; is following tracks and killing what you hunt down a decent way to pass time? And what is finding tracks based on? A search check?

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Having a hard time keeping myself healed, and getting gold for healing potions.
Should I maybe try a strength-based Cleric first? Lots of carrying capacity, and good healing, considering that I seem to have so much trouble with it as is?
Also, took my second level in Rogue and now have Weapon Finesse, so hitting better with my twin Short Swords.
EDIT: I mention strength because of all the loot I'm leaving in caves because I can't carry it back to town. Also, no way of fast traveling between town and dungeons has me scrambling a bit.
EDIT2: Never mind with the carrying, I guess, since I just discovered how to sacrifice remains. That makes life easier. Still trying to figure out how to make money and get back to start in a hurry. Without dying.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
A shop in Mountainholm sells Bags of Holding, that eases the loot carrying a lot.
Money is hard to get in early levels - I started with selling bows from the kobolds northeast of the starting area. Don't worry too much, though, in mid- to high-levels, money is very easy to come by, so just hang in there. :-)
When you catch me online, send me a tell, and maybe we can find a way to get your character some decent equipment.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
As far as carrying capacity goes, if you can save up 400 gp, you can purchase an ox in Valorian's Vale. Bring it along with you into the caves, then leave it at the entrance to hold your loot until you're ready to leave. The price is worth it for the time saved in traveling.
Tracks: Search, then Knowledge (nature) to identify. The second skill is a background one you improve in over time, but don't put ranks into.

Went on an adventure yesterday, to help kill some undead king.
Got a good bit of money and equipment out of that, thanks all around. Also almost to level 5, looking forward to that. All around, pretty fun. Doing some of the village quests now, like the ant colony, and the restless dead (going to be rough for my rangerogue to handle, but should be fun.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
To y knowledge bards and wizards do rather well in Aenea.. ask Cridias Bane for more info.. haha...
.. on the point of carrying capcity the ox is a good choice for a cheap price but I much prefer the horses and saddlebags availiable in Mountinholme castle.. Yes the horse is not as strong as the ox, nor as cheap but you get the option of a rideable mount thrown in as well.. making all them trips back and forth alot faster..
.. on the point of identifying items .. save up 5000gp and take all your items to an alter to Kalas (located in many towns, the Vale has one up on the hill just behind and left of the wanderers portal).. for this large donation Kalas will examine everything you have.. ..
.. .. Alternatively hold it all until you bump into myself and I'll happily I'd all loot for ye normally free but else with little cost, depebds how I'm feeling and if I need the cash / other item of payment.. ..
.. Glad ye had fun with us the other night... see you in game..

Yes, most items that drop from creatures is not identified. You have to go through the effort, because how do you know something is magical if all you give is a quick glance?
Plus, bards, wizards, and those that have devoted time to recognizing magic (put ranks in Lore) are often friendly and helpful.

Hey, don't forget the handy-dandy identification crystal threw in! I know it has an item-identification-limitation-based-on-gp-value (10,000 I believe), but very well-worth it.

Is there a specific board to discuss build concepts?

Not really a specific board for it, but General Chat might work for you.Maeglin Dubh wrote:Is there a specific board to discuss build concepts?

If you play a character and discover that you're really not enjoying it, you can talk to Arkon the Wolf in Valorian's Vale about storing experiences and retirement. When you retire a character, half of his/her earned experience points are stored in the database. One of your other characters can then get that experience to help advance in level (by talking to Arkon again).
You can also have Arkon store some of your experience for later. Doing so may reduce your current level. Then talk to him to get your experience points back to relevel. This is a temporary way to relevel a character until I properly script a dedicated "releveling option". This way of doing things hurts those with subraces, since they'd have to pay the xp penalties that they already had...twice (or more).

In my experience, level seems to be involved in the equation as to when it activates. Playing Bowen (a follower of Aquar), it seemed that for the first few levels I had *TONS* of Water Breathing Potions (in fact, selling them was my early level source of income); when he started getting higher, it seemed that the "Create Water Breathing Potion" thing activated less; his Piety was usually between 2000 and 3000.

As a follower of Asis, the favors I receive take the form of healing. My piety is a little over 3000 right now, but I've noticed that I get healed every time my health drops to near death levels. It doesn't happen often, but when it does, the favors are pretty consistent.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
You piety sometimes increases when you use the sacrificial flame on items in your inventory or on the (bag shaped) remains of your fallen enemies (you can also do a "mass" sacrifice by using it on yourself to get all the remains around you).
You can increase your piety by sacrificing gold at an altar dedicated to your deity. You can also use such an altar to offer a prayer of praise, which will also raise your piety.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Welcome back. Yes, a relatively recent addition effective Sept. 19th when I went live with the overhauled haks. Updated haks, CCP 2.1, updated tlk file.
Never heard of an installation party before, but I could see it for everyone wanting to play the same game. The more the merrier!

Yeah, Amethyst is eternally fiddling with things, so be sure to periodically check back for updates and what-not! Hope the install party is going well, and perhaps we'll see ya in-game!

The CCP link on Aenea's homepage leads to the older CCP

Got one guy in last night... We both died a few times on our wanderings, but we hope to bring in reinforcements tonight.

because how do you know something is magical if all you give is a quick glance?
Well... you can, sorta. At least in terms of "this is magical, that is not", and you're somewhat familiar with what you're hunting at the time.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
I talked to Arkon, and he said you could store 10% of your exp. per day. That sounds like it would take quite a long time to rebuild a character. If one wants to go back and do earlier levelups again, is it just going to take a long time?

That conversation text is in error.
was planning to prevent a loophole with such a policy, but has foregone such a limit for now in order to allow folks to relevel in this way until he can offer a different option.

Re: Maeglin's Questions (Some more obvious than others)
Ok, so if I decide I want to start over and work towards a different weapon specialization, I can do that.
Excellent.
EDIT: What about stats? Any way of reworking those? Or do I have to start a new character for a new stat spread?

Not sure if it's still an issue, but if you have a subrace, using Arkon to relevel can cause you have to pay the XP debt per level again.
