Re: Game Nostalgia!
My roomie used to have a couple versions of Lemmings on his rig; used to play the game for hours until I reached a puzzle that had no apparent solution. This drove me to walkthroughs for On-line games ever since.
Also loved Scorched Earth; great time buster.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
Ah, I remember that one. Was always fun trying to kill my lemmings in as many horrible ways possible before they got to their goals too.
I just finished playing through the Thief series (gold, metal age, deadly shadows). Never finished DS until now actually... great ending to it. Too bad ionstorm shut down though... would have liked to see a new thief game come out.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
The first computer game I owned, F15e Strike Eagle. The game which got me addicted, Starflight (the original). My first online game, Warlord II. Ultima Online, and the griefers. Everquest, the game I had to give up because it was becoming addictive and intrusive. And of course, NWN, the perfect game. Spend the time you want on your schedule. Thanks !

I remember strike eagle!
Never played UO or evercrack though. I did play a text based MUD around the time that came out though.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
My first computer game was Secret of the Silver Blades (an old SSI D&D game)...it ran off 5.25 inch floppies on a computer that didn't even have a hard drive .
Got my first taste of Age of Empires when a demo was run at Gencon ('94).
My first year of college, a buddy of mine introduced me to text-based MUDs (and my typing speed jumped considerably) and the original Doom (which he soon put on the computer in his dorm room, hooked up to a killer sound system...rocket launcher almost shook the room and splattering enemies was just gross).
Ah, nostalgia.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
My favorite mod for DOOM was one that turned the imps into beavis and butthead, complete with the snickering laughs.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
Oh, Doom, I recall that game. Played it once or twice, but never really got that far into it...I found it rather boring to walk around in the same corridors over and over, shooting monsters. The only first-shooter game I have played for any length of time and could get really into was Wolfenstein 3D. Oh boy that brings back memories...
Raptor: Call of Shadows, was also rather fun.
The Age of Empire series was much joy, as was the Heroes of Might and Magic game series, and The Settlers (which was the first game I played and really got into...aside from perhaps SimCity and Tetris).
http://www.dosgamesarchive.com <== That side contains a lot of game nostalgia.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
Well, Doom WAS made a long time ago.... positively primitive compared to today's shooters.
If you want to give an interresting FPS a try, look for Thief:the dark project (or Thief:Gold), and Thief 2: The metal age. They're older games, but really good. They're first person sneakers rather than shooters though... you COULD assassinate all the guards and such if you wanted to though...

Yeah, I know...I'm not judging the game from today's standard, at all, but how I felt when it was still new.
Compared to the game's predecessor, Wolfenstein 3D (which I remember, I very much enjoyed to play), it just felt bleh when I tried it out.. Then again, it could be because my taste in genres had changed in-between the releases of the two games, and I had grown much fonder for the strategy genre.

Re: Game Nostalgia!
I recently watched a vid made from console gamers graphics; am soooo happy I have a PC, as my memories of the same games are much more vivid in detail.
