NWNCX: Are you using it?

Just a basic poll.

Are you playing in Aenea with NWNCX (the Neverwinter Nights Client Extender) or not?

I just ask because I'm adding some new textures and beam effects in the next hak update, and these won't be visible to those that don't use NWNCX.

I recommend it, but I know not everyone uses it. I'm just curious about the percentages.

Hey, not using it yet, but may try it soon. One thing of note, virusman released a new version 0.2.5 recently. It has a new patcher that's hopefully less prone to trigger anti-virus software, among other updates. The link on the info site still points to a local copy of version 0.2.4. The release thread is HERE. Also... you may need the microsoft visual c++ redistributable files from HERE

I saw that, but every time I try to download it, I get a corrupt .rar (I can get all the new stuff out of it, except the patcher). 0.2.4 has the new patcher, too. I've been able to get what I need for testing, but I want to make sure the download is actually all good before I update the .info site.

I'm going to try again with the download of the 0.2.5 .rar again tonight. If it still gives me an issue, I'll email virusman to let him know that there might be a minor issue with the file.

But, for something that improves the game client like it does, it's hard to believe it's only a 38 kb compressed download.

There's always a small risk of problems with this sort of thing, but set up with the loader (rather than patching the exe) is unlikely to cause any problems if you run without the loader. Here's the very minimal way I just set it up.

A) download the .rar file
B) open the .rar in the unarchiver and copy the following 4 files to your NWN directory ...
1) NWNCX_Loader.exe (used to preload NWN and dynamically patch the executing program.)
2) NWNCX.dll (required library)
3) nwncx_disablems.dll (plugin to get rid of the master server error)
4) nwncx_tweaks.dll (plugin to get the new graphics)
C) Copy current NWN program shortcut and rename it NWNCX, change the executed program from nwmain.exe to NWNCX_Loader.exe.

Just click on the original shortcut to run without NWNCX at all and click on NWNCX shortcut to run with it.

There's a readme.txt in the archive for instructions on how to actually patch your exe, and for other plugins and developer stuff.

, the .rar file I got this evening was 40351 bytes compressed with an md5 checksum of cd0e9cb5da78dd740e9812dd251b3770. It is quite small!
