Lots of reasons I"ve been offline for an extended period. Some interesting, others not so...

Big hitters:

1) 7 mo pregnant momma with our first baby!!!
2) Medical issues

I expect I will be online more than I have been, but will still be pretty intermittent for a while. Both the baby and the medical issues are ongoing... ::wink:: ::grimace::

Hi All,

Wanted to post an update. I've thought about all of my friends here on Aenea many times over the past few months while I've been kept offline.

Momma and Baby are both doing well. She is a very active 2 month old.

Medical issues continue to worsen, I am at a minimum facing extensive reconstructive surgery and possible amputations if my condition doesn't improve in my right foot.

I've begun working with a lawyer regarding the original surgery that led to the subsequent issues with my foot.

I miss the company of the player base and the world of Aenea. I hope to return soon if possible.

Sorry to hear about the health trials, and hope to be playing again soon myself. My brother has shown some interest in learning NWN, so on his next visit I plan for a HotU excursion and general intro to the server and game.

Since this thread seems to be not only about potential returning but updating about our situations, I'll post mine here rather than in the 'Suck Is' thread.

My mother passed away Oct. 1, and we had to drop everything (and in the middle of our highest sales season) to drive a thousand miles to deal with it all, with the arrangements and especially with sorting/moving out/distributing all the multitude of papers and files and items in her apartment.  She had always promised to leave a will, but we couldn't find one, so we had to file in court to appoint me executor in order to do anything about her accounts, a process which the understaffed clerk's office explained could take as long as four months.  We've had a wake at her apartment complex, and the funeral in another state with the family, then brought a carload back up to our place.  Now we're waiting for more paperwork in the mail before we drive back down that thousand miles to finish sorting the apartment.  So it's been sort of a mess, to quote my husband.

Really miss you guys and our lovely world, and I so hope to be back more eventually.  I'd thought to be gone just for my high sales season, but now this situation may go on for a while instead.

And Dave, I hope you can soon get control of that bucking-bronco of a job, so you can come back, too.

Ramana Jala - Man, we send y'all hugs and comfort and prayers and positivity in your whirlwind time of grief and change.  We wait patiently for your return, when we will shower you with welcomes and requests for awesome garments!     

As for us, we're still in the process of moving - we hope to be finished by end of November.  My mother-in-law had a house fire 8 years ago and had to move, so she's been accumulating piles of stuff in her place - it's been quite a process to sort through, organize, and donate/recycle/dispose of all the stuff  ...  I think the trash man has been overwhelmed at times with the quantity of disposables that have been put out for her ...
Abe's laptop continues to be the only machine able to give us internets (again, thank you, mysterious generous wifi neighbor!) - it's also quite amusing, because it recently met with an accident of sorts, so now relies on an external monitor/keyboard/mouse for its use.

In summary, we hope to get internet back and life returned to normal by the end of November.  Till then, stay frosty, y'all!

And of course, as always, thanks and love and hugs to for his ceaseless work on the awesomeness that is Aenea!  You're the boss, boss!

Hi Everyone,

Pleased to report that things are stabilizing on my end.

A quick update:

* I had an amputation of my right 4th toe. This sounds a lot worse than it is. It actually improved the overall health of the foot.
* I now have custom shoes so I can walk again somewhat normally! This is huge, I've had extremely limited mobility for almost 2 years.
* Although my mobility has improved, it's still really limited. I experimented with returning to working at campus (vs wfh) a couple of days a week and promptly developed a (minor) injury that I am still healing from 2 weeks later.
* I know everyone thinks this, but our baby is AMAZING and really does make our lives worth living. Being first time parents and with a young child, it's getting easier every day.

So... Long story short, I hope to have some time to play/DM! ::fingers crossed:: - No promises! haha

I'm updating my client now and should be online shortly.

Thanks to everyone who sent well wishes my way while I was offline, it means a lot.

Welcome back!

Welcome back, Odbo, and I'm very sorry for your loss of your mother, Ramana.  We lost my mom to Parkinson's in January of last year.  I had been a caregiver 24/7 (with help from my wife when she was home from work) from June 2008 until her passing (we had her in an assisted living facility for the last six months, but I was taking care of her at home prior to that).  We're still dealing with some of the wrap-up issues.  I hope your issues from your mom's passing have cleared up.

Odbo, I hope you continue to heal.

I am now returning to the full-time practice of law (but not as a law firm attorney--as a solo practitioner at my ADVANCED age!).

So regarding the above two points and in explanation of why I went back offline yet again... That injury mentioned continued to worsen and has resulted in the most significant surgery to date. After some investigation it was determined that the custom footwear was aggravating a spot in the foot that had become an issue since the shoes were first cast.

I am in the second week of recovery and am predicted to make a full recovery in about another month.

I've got a laptop setup so I can access it while I convalesce, something I couldn't do before when our daughter was younger. She is now good for extended periods of time playing quietly by herself and is very independent...

Well, I managed to get everything installed and working again, and logged back in for the first time in a long time to discover had preserved everything for me just as it had been. I have about forgotten how to play, but it will come back to me. Was hoping to see Crideas and Jay still around, but looking forward to seeing those who remain, and the new players.

Are there any nights people are playing on in particular, or is it just luck of the draw?

Anyway, I was gone a long time, but hoping to be around more often.

I've been playing an hour or two in the evenings pacific time.

I've not been playing as much recently due to firefighter training, work, and playtime going to my own nwn projects, but when I *do* log in, it' usually late evenings EST.  Just been a few weeks since I last logged in   Probably won't get aroud to aenea time until a week or two ito the next month.

So, if anyone has wondered where I have been for the past few months now. I have been struggling with getting my PC up and running again since it suddenly decided to not work anymore...

I'm occupied with a big project in RL, so I only get a few (interruptable) minutes here and there to pop in, which time I've mostly tended to use fetching various upgrade stuffs.

Crideas has been away for a long time.  Ever since Dave got that job, that he really digs but the company is apparently permanently short-staffed and so he has to do the job of several.  With no end in sight still, I guess, as he hasn't even been available to chat for months.

AoD, thanks for letting us know what's going on with you.

Ramana, a few minutes here and there and a presence on the forums makes you "active" I'm pretty sure.

Yup. But no matter how long inbetween the visits, rest assured that all y'all are in our thoughts always (mine, anyways, although that's a bit better than being in my overrides!) - Once an Aeneaite, always an Aeneaite! [Doesn't Skywatcher prove that - he's been gone for years, and here he is again!]

Update on my situation.

I still love my job - though sometimes it gets frustrating having people repeatedly not listen to me when I am speaking about things in my field of expertise, or not do as I ask of them in order to make everyone's lives/jobs more manageable. They say cultural changes can take a decade... so this is one long-haul I hope I can outlast.

As for the bananas craziness - we got an external contractor for supplemental labor, this is actually the 2nd or 3rd one, but this one is actually good - he listens, has interest and passion, and has been a major help in accomplishing goals and completing tasks. That said, it has only resulted in slow and steady progress toward elimination of my backlogged tasks. We are keeping our heads above water for the first time in almost 18 months, which is great.

It looks like the really brutal projects that my team have been buried under are scheduled for deadlines at the end of June and July. We still have a number of other high-priority projects on hold until these are done, but I am hopeful that the next round of projects will be less demanding in certain ways...

So, I am going to try and spend less time working, and more time enjoying myself - including Aenea.

Woot for the return of the Big Man!

I should be getting more playtime as well towards the end of June.  Finishing up a long run of fire training classes finally, and we only have 2 or 3 parades this season, the first of which won't be until middle or late august.

Well just as an update from me.... in October I hit my resettlement/terminal leave grant before my contract with the military comes to its 12year endpoint for March 2015....

So dependent on how things go, I'll have plenty of time towards the end of the year for playing games, worrying over a future job/employment, finding a house for the family and generally being dumped on from the country I've spent 12 years serving for.......

Yes, just found out today that my contract "very likely possibly" will NOT be renewed this year due to all the stupid damn defence budget cuts.... even though my tradegroup is currently running at only 60% staff levels..... the SINGLE most annoying thing is seeing ADVERTS on TV for new recruits to join up.. IN MY TRADE......... maybe if they keep some of us around there wouldn't be such a f*****g shortage !

Living a Dream

I'm in the last stages of recovering from surgery #7 and have been forced to re-install NWN. Dumb android no longer supports windows drive letters, so it broke my ability to run off of my phone...

I'm having a problem I can't seem to solve on my own, embarrassed to say...

I'm on 1.69 and installed all of the Aenea goodness with the exception of the portrait packs which seem to be doa...

I get past the player auth and into the choose character screen, after i hit "Play" it crashes with no error. The window just closes, much like I've experienced in the past when an Aenea resource is missing and the server and client can't connect as a result. (NOTE: If I choose create new character the play button never opens up and remains grey - not sure if it's related...)

I've triple checked everything, I don't see anything I'm missing from the download page and the OC runs fine... Any help/suggestions you might provide is appreciated.

Can you load a single player game?

Yes, sorry my mention of the "OC" was easy to miss...

A few more details, this laptop has played Aenea before, so I don't think it's an issue with the OS/drivers.

My current install:

1. Diamond Edition
2. 1.69 Crit Rebuild
3. Some modifications to ini files (Memory, CPU Affinity etc) - I'll list my ini files below, maybe there is an error there that only gets touched when logging into Aenea. Seems dubious...
4. Setup Video/Audio/Gameplay settings in the client
4. Aenea goodness, crash happens whether nwncx or vanilla. Direct connect or via the UI.

No Mas for Aenea, I get to the PC selection screen, but when I hit play it black screens (sometimes instantly, sometimes after 20-30 secs, sometimes hangs on black screen) and the process closes.

I get this in the client log after the module fails to load:

Couldn't load the Hak Pak File "aeneahak_temp.hak"
Could not load the Module.
Missing required HAK file.

I see that by looking in the forums that this hak was a bridging hak that was used temporarily until the release of CEP 2.60

I'm not sure what is going on, but I've done a full re-install of CEP 2.60 w/2da fix and a re-install of the aeneahak_updates.hak as well, and the error still occurs.

Further suggestions?

All right, the _temp hak file was still on the webserver but with no link. I downloaded it and put it in my hak folder and now the build module loads.

But... Aenea still crashes on connect...

Any other thoughts?

PS. Nothing in clientlog or clienterror after the crash...

Check windows event log - application log for possible windows error codes?

Install that whole beast. I had this issue (or something very similar) until I put in the whole Q, then it was all working peachy.

I know, it's an override, shouldn't make a difference, blah, blah. But, for me it did.

Project Q isn't an override...it's required haks.

Since you can load up SP campaigns and the build module, I'm thinking it may be an asset issue out of one of the haks, and you may have a corrupt hak in the mix.  I don't think there's anything from projectQ in the astral conjunction, but may be a good idea to run the q-updater anyhow, as well as redownload the aenea and CEP haks.  Also try logging in with an empty override folder, both with and without nwncx (if you use the client extender).

Wow the q updater is a monster nearly 100K source files and 5 gigs. Took over 4 hours to run the first time. It created/copied in new copies of the q haks. No change in behavior... Next up, redownload and reinstall all of the Aenea stuff...

EDIT: Tried with empty override folder, no change there either.

Dave, which event logs do you suggest I look at? I didn't see anything in the app, system, or security logs.

If there was nothing in the Windows Application event log, then Windows doesn't consider it to be an application fault or exception - which makes sense because you arent getting any crash errors. Only thing I can think is that maybe you need to work with to update your NWN CD keys on the server with the proper NWN account? If you have the Aenea .tlk file, then you should be getting an error pop-up about this, though.

Also check your system for any sort of software firewall. Make sure the Aenea IP is allowed for NWN on the appropriate nwnclient ports.

A question for the - boss, I know that life is getting hectic for you, with a move coming up and whatnot, I was just wondering if you had any kinda plan to work on the mod - an estimated timeframe, etc? I wanna come back in, but i'm really, really, really waiting for the in-game item crafting system to be fixed.

Any general plan? Or is a tinkering return too far in the future for you to comment?
