"Satisfries"

Hi all.

It's been awfully quiet around here. So I'll post something completely un-NWN-related.

I went out to lunch with the wife and older two kids a few days back, and we decided on hitting up Burger King.  I decided to try their new "satisfries", which are supposed to be a little healthier than regular fast food fries (less fat, less calories).

I was impressed.  The new fries are quiet tasty.  They are done in a "crinkle cut" style, so they have more surface area and have more crunch to the outside.  The inside was perfectly cooked and fluffy.  The new fries were also quite a bit larger than regular fast food fries, and I prefer larger fries.  The flavor is excellent, and I didn't miss the "extra fat" that normally contributes a lot to a fry's taste.

I don't eat at BK very often (maybe once every couple of years).  But if I was a regular customer, I'd definitely get these every time.

Since the stroke, I allow myself to 'cheat' on my sodium diet once a month for some fries. This is not as difficult as one may think, as I sorta gave up fries and chips as a regular staple for a dozen years when I used to be in proper shape. Now my shape is rather pear designed, and I am at my record weight, but I digress....

Sounds good! Most times when such fads hit the market, they tend to be appealing on paper, and about as tasty. However, our local BK if still extant would be located on campus, which is a driving concern for my Mother; my caregiver. Traffic is a bit congested there, and locals know to kinda stay away for the first weeks of school, as well as daily class hours. At least this local knows it, as I majored in Freshman there long enough, but again I digress....

 

Out of the fast food choices, I have always been partial to BK. When we lived in Edinboro, our BK had some crazy crunchy fries that were to fry for. But the offerings around the Altoona area have been more pedestrian.

On a related/not related note, guess what Abe brought home from Youth Friday Night at church ... 50 McDonald's cheeseburgers. Like Elhanan said, sounds good on paper ...

Actually, I am a fan of those smaller McD cheeseburgers; tis the larger sandwiches that seem bland to me. But of the fast food places, it is Wendy's that gets the majority of my business, though for my monthly fries, it is often Hardee's.

I had to give up BK, as that smoked flavor additive seemed to disagree with me, so I have not had their food in ages.
