The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Hola, !
Is there anything going on on your end that would contribute to a ridiculous lag? ISP issues, anything like that? I know several others have experienced the same thing, so that leads me to believe that it might be more server-side than local-sicde ...

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Yes, I experienced it myself. Last night, I tried to log on, while I think your Ilolisa and Manny's Alice were on. It took a really long time to even load, and after I got in it was wonky also. So since I was tired anyways, I left.
I'd speculate that a Friday night during Xmas holidays might see the whole Western world online gaming and shopping, that could cause lag.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Could have been related to VC command spamming. There's now a limitation in the module to prevent this.
If it's still horribly lagging, there will be more digging for a cause.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Dont think it was the VC spamming The VC spammage has as far as I know been 100% my doing, and I only spammed when I was the only person online.
The lag the other night (when eric started this thread) was severe, and it was just me and Eric on, I was hunting beholders, and I think Eric was doing "the rounds" hitting up merchants.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
I looked up the communal loot pile in the beholders today, and I recall Manny saying he had found it the other day. Well, I got to thinking that maybe the new loot pile should be checked as a cause of this lag, as when I was dealing with it a moment ago, it was problematic. The animations kept disappearing parts of the loot, then reappearing it again, and it took me forever to get things to show on pages 2 and 3 of the chest --for the longest time thought those pages were empty-- and hard to take items, and generally an entirely sticky laggy experience. And it was a long animation with lots of scene changes as stuff was taken and pages cleared. I was the only one IG at the time.
It's certainly a very lovely animation sequence, but I'd suggest that the plentiful and somewhat erratic animations of this wonderful new loot pile could be causing lag.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
.... I think you are completely right.
The contents of the hordes updates as you kill the creatures the horde belongs to.
For an area like beholders... there's usually a TON of beholders in there, so the whole model change thing is firing off one every few moments....
And yes, i've noticed that taking stuff out of the chest causes a bit of lag as the model of the horde itself updates.

Yeah; the Lag is huge, and appears to make all but mundane tasks very difficult.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Server just crashed... think it was lag related? The lag was so horrendous, and had been for the last couple hours that I could barely get my character to walk across a single area. Would take minutes, and a TON of rubber-banding back to my previous position. I was the only person on the server.

Things were much smoother tonight. Did you locate the problem?

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Nobody was in beholders, that's why it ran smooth.
Right after you left, I went down there, and no sooner did I start picking on the beholders, the server went into fullout rubber band city lag fest of epic proportions.
I left.... server smoothed back up.
The hordes have to go.

Perhaps there is something in conflict. But this does seem to be a good indicator as to where to start searching.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
I'm investigating tonight and tomorrow. There may be some server resets along the way, but I'll try to keep them to when nobody is playing.
Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Thanks; am hoping to play a bit more soon.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
Don't know if this is related, or just a new separate issue, but....
A number of times today, the game has lagged up, and after just a few moments, crashes. The server takes several minutes to start back up after one of these crashes.
At the time of all the crashes I was the only one on the server, and not doing anything partculary 'crash' worthy except for the first instance (Auger hunting beholders.... seriously, that horde has to go if no others ) The lag and resulting crash hit rather soon (within minutes) of logging on.

Re: The dreaded lag monster strikes again ... and again ...
I think my ISP has been doing local work tonight. I've gotten disconnected from the net a few times that I've noticed.
Hoping it's cleared up now. I'm going to keep an eye on it until morning...I have a feeling an IP address change will happen soon, so I'll have to update the website with the new address and restart the server if that happens so we show up in the gamespy replacement listings again.
