How much would you download?
So I'm working on a SP module... or rather a campaign spread over several modules using projectQ as a base with module(s) specific haks, and Im working on streamlining the custom content as much as possible. My question to everyone is how large does a modules hak downloads have to be before it turns you off to wanting to download it and give it a try? This is for as said, a campaign, not just a short module or even a moderate trilogy. Im planning on the adventure to take the PC from level 1/2 up to around level 30 over the course of maybe 20 to 30 hours of gameplay (depending on how fast you read conversations/low to moderate amount of sidequests completed).
Currently the module specific haks I have in weigh in at 230 mb in the hak folder (and would naturally be smaller when put into rar or 7z archive form for downloading). Would that plus projectQ be in your opinions too much for a campaign a little longer than the combined SoU/HotU campaign?

Re: How much would you download?
Considering most people that still play NWN have likely got ProjectQ by now anyway, a small 200mb download for a single player campaign/module sounds reasonable. The problem for me here is that other then a few modules some 2-3 years ago the only other NWN downloads I've done are for Aenea, so my view is completely bias (in the fact that I'm looking forward to your module regardless )

Re: How much would you download?
That size sounds reasonable for a download. And Project Q is readily available and presumably won't cause conflicts if people install it.
But let me tell you that hak file size doesn't turn me off as much as Overrides potentially do. What I mean is that I'll readily download a huge hak file, because that won't have to be switched out when I play something else. But if there's overrides (or anything else like dialog.tlk) that make me have to switch things in and out and keep track of it, that more than anything makes me pause to install a module.

Re: How much would you download?
No override swapping Any and all custom content will be in hak form only.
Only thing my module would affect override-wise so far is Kamiryns customizer override wont work as I have a module specific crafting convo.

Re: How much would you download?
I agree with Ramana Jala. No overrides. But seriously, who worries about hak size these days? Most have a high speed connection. With the way the games industry has shifted its not unusual to download a few GIGs to play a browser game.
What IS great is if youre able to use that bundle program thing that you download the one file, click it and it puts all the files in the right folders.
That might be a good incentive alternative for Aenea as well Amethest Dragon to offer that as well as the individual files for download.

Re: How much would you download?
As long as the module contains a good, interesting storyline and is built well I have no limit on download size. The only thing which might bother me is what Ramana already mentioned, override-swapping. It's kind of a pain to do just for playing a module...

That existed at one point in time, but turned out to be a maintenance nightmare because there are sometimes multiple file updates in as short as a month.
MJ, I wouldn't even blink at a hak that is 1G in size, only after that would I begin to question it.

Re: How much would you download?
As of lately, it hasnt been monthly, but Aenea is updated quite often. Offhand seems to be a big hak update once every 6 months to a year, and minor updates/additions between. Big hak updates tend to come when something big is added in, like projectQ, or when the "update" hak gets to be a certain size and reshuffles the content into the other non-update haks (which is good, or otherwise the update hak itself would be the same size as all the other haks combined )

Double the ancient ones double the rock puns? If so, I think we might be in big big rubble.

Re: How much would you download?
Heh, with version 2 of projectQ now including almost half of the custom content I planned on using, the module specific hak has dropped down to a very small number.... may be down to next to nothing if I decide not to use hardpoint's dragons.

Re: How much would you download?
Hell, with the constant updating Q's had over the last several weeks, my module's custom hak has been cut down to virtually nothing (somewhere around 50mb now, and there's still more content I gotta pull out because it's in Q itself now!)
Now I'm just trying to decide if I want to make the 1.71 community patch a requirement or not, or rather, trying to understand all the changes and if I can use most of the 1.71 goodies *without* the player needing it themselves.
