A Small Request
A while ago, in order to conserve inventory space, I made rings and books stackable (with stacks of up to 5 and 3, respectively). It turns out there is a minor drawback to that change.
Selling stacks of such items means anyone that wants to buy that item later has to buy the entire stack.
So my small request: Please split your stacks of magical rings and books before selling them to shops/merchants. Nobody needs 5 rings of protection +1 (right click the item in your inventory to split one off the stack at a time). Feel free to sell stacks of non-magical rings and books, since I don't think anybody really buys those back from merchants (unless just for RP, in which case the non-magical ones are usually pretty cheap).
Thanks.

Re: A Small Request
Would it be possible to make amulets stackable, as well? As it is, a few minutes of quality time with mummy dearest results in more copper amulets than you can shake a bag of holding at.

Possible, but not likely.Maeglin Dubh wrote:Would it be possible to make amulets stackable, as well? As it is, a few minutes of quality time with mummy dearest results in more copper amulets than you can shake a bag of holding at.
When I made that change, I upped the gem stacks to 50. Rings went to 5 (they're small), books went to 3 (they're flat and can be tied together).
Amulets would just get all tangled up. Have you ever tried to untangle cords/chains from necklaces that have been tossed together?... ...I once worked for an online jewelry company that got necklaces in bulk... Plus, with the issue discovered with the stacking rings and selling, I don't really want to introduce another stack selling/buying issue dealing with equipable items.

Makes sense.

Re: A Small Request
Aye makes sense .. but... how about.. we get a jewelery box? ... a bag type item that summons forth an "invisible ethereal chest"(a placeable to 'interact' with), that only takes rings and gems and amulets, but somehow finds their cost and adds it all up... when we get to a merchant we simply "empty the box" for all the gold ... ... then we don't need these items stackable as the box holds alot (maybe because of its special magics it weighs more inherently)... the merchants dont excatly 'fill up' with countless rings etc (they get destroyed from the box).. might have problems saving your box contents over server resets but hey! how many thiefs are in this world??....they get you whilst you where unconsious/asleep/ transiting to the Astral Plane... ...
I know script-wise it can be done.. I've seen it somewhere on the vault (I know i've scripted similar myself).. I know the markshire chests work similiar.. and I've seen it as a "True Bag of Holding" or something similiar - I just cant find it right now.. ... ...
EDIT: We could also deadlock the box.. what goes in Never Comes Out.. (all items get made "undroppable"- the box can't give it back)..
Any ideas's anyone?? Good/Bad or Ugly ... ... ... ...

Re: A Small Request
Would the items in the box actually to into the merchant's inventory though? One thing that's good about selling your loot to merchants is another player will come along, browse the inventory, and see an item there that's better than what they usually see, or just something really cool they haven't come across yet. It's one way we can simulate random stock in shops.... the players make it randomized themselves.

Re: A Small Request
MannyJabrielle has a good point - too many times I've been in the shops, and the item I covet the most is one I know isn't usually there! I could see RustyDios' idea as appropriate for a higher-higher level character with higher-higher level loot, that you couldn't or wouldn't sell to Smitty or Darla - that would be way cool!

Re: A Small Request
Well the idea wasn't so much for all the magical rings/amulets.. but more so for the mundane "copper necklace", "ruby ring", "silver ring" ... etc etc.. simply if its something that you want to sell to the merchant normally don't drop it in the box.. or think of the box as "this is all the non-magical jewelery I have I don't want to sell normally, ny clicking dragging each and every bit.. "... or some such... a few hours in Caliths Well and you can fill an entire Belt of Pouches inventory very, very quickly ... ...
