Not Used: Subrace Idea: Janni (split)
Another idea! Janni. Perhaps make them a tiny bit larger than humans, with a wingless flight ability, a couple spell-like abilities, and a stat boost or two.
The PnP version has some pretty heavy boni, but maybe it could be toned down?

- +6 Strength, +4 Dexterity, +2 Constitution, +4 Intelligence, +4 Wisdom, +2 Charisma.
- Medium size.
- A janni’s base land speed is 30 feet. It also has a fly speed of 20 feet (perfect).
- Darkvision out to 60 feet.
- Racial Hit Dice: A janni begins with six levels of outsider, which provide 6d8 Hit Dice, a base attack bonus of +6, and base saving throw bonuses of Fort +5, Ref +5, and Will +5.
- Racial Skills: A janni’s outsider levels give it skill points equal to 9 x (8 + Int modifier). Its class skills are Appraise, Concentration, Craft (any), Escape Artist, Listen, Move Silently, Ride, Sense Motive, and Spot.
- Racial Feats: A janni’s outsider levels give it three feats. A janni receives Improved Initiative as a bonus feat.
- +1 natural armor bonus.
- Special Attacks (see above): Change size, spell-like abilities.
- Special Qualities (see above): Elemental endurance, plane shift, resistance to fire 10, telepathy. 100 ft.
- Automatic Languages: Common. Bonus Languages: Abyssal, Aquan, Auran, Celestial, Ignan, Infernal, Terran.
- Favored Class: Rogue.
- Level adjustment +5.

I dunno, even at half the benefits, that seems like an overloaded subrace.

well its not really a subrace at all...
And the mandatory racial levels (outsider levels) are part and parcel of it... they raise the ECL (effective character level) by 6... which is crazy in itself.... as these would be ADDED to the final level adjustment of +5.... for a total ECL of +11.
If it were to be modified into a subrace, I would think would choose two or three bonuses to keep, and that would be it.

That's what I intended, yeah. Just something to add to the flavor of the server, really. I think something elemental would be pretty nice.

forgive a D&D noob... is a Janni like a genie or more like something completely unlike the image i have in my mind? (no not the "i live in a bottle" type, the circus dressed planar being with an affinity for air)

Janni are genie, and genies come in various elemental forms.
Fire djinni(a single djinn is djinni) are called Efreeti, and come only from the elemental plane of fire, being made fully of elemental flame. They are evil aligned and often warriors, and tend towards law. Water djinni are often chaotic aligned, being in stealth and warrior classes. Air djinn, among the most common, are arcane casters and stealth classes, with varying alignments, but never lawful. Earth djinn are often warrior and cleric classes, and are often lawful and neutral.
The common djinni that we see when we use a magic lamp is the weakest least powerful one of all, made with 1 of every 4 elements. The prefer to be arcane casters, but most of them are commoners.
All djinni are considered nobles compared to all being other than other djinni, and as such insulting or abusing a djinni can cause dire consequences that are usually distant in the future and not directly caused by the djinni (unless an efreeti, who don't mind testing their blades and magic on mortals).

Because djinni are not a viable playable race unless on extremely rare (and temporary) occasions by dungeon masters in PnP games, it only makes sense that only specifically trusted staff (GM or DMs) control them, and not players.
