Assasination of Scholars

It appears Veleron may be active again - seeking to extinguish the live of those who have access to and can understand the lore that holds the key to his downfall.

The lore of the crystals which are anchored to the Dark Realm, and preserve his invulnerability.

He has contracted a Grand Corrupter of Sorgath's Great Temple, hidden somewhere deep underground, to slay all the scholars and loremasters in order to cover the trail of knowledge regarding the means to pull the blood crystals across the Dimensional boundaries from the Dark Realm and break the ancient Blood Magic ritual cast on his bloodline so long ago.

Sorgath's agents must be stopped in ther murderous quest. Then we must find the lore that Veleron wishes to keep hidden.

Due to having an extensive collection of odd lore on her library shelves Miss Grace Fularras has been locked away within the protections of her home fearing that she may be targeted as one such scholar of knowledge. She knows that her magical prowess isn't something to be sneered at, but has heard rumours of a new "magebreaking barbarian" tribe that might be working within the Sorgathian/Veleron contract. The streets are no longer safe for the magical overpowered classes ..... ...

With the extra protections of a small adventurer party she might be tempted to come out of hiding and help in this cause.. she has already lost some friends to this murderous assassin guild... and would like some revenge... Twisted Evil

About a week or two goes by after the adventurers confronted Lord Highfang.

Then rumors and stories of their deeds begin circulating through various Inns and Taverns, and sung by the occasional Bard. The songs and stories are, of course, widely exaggerated, embellished, and often inaccurate, but all seem to follow a common theme of Core Events.

A brief rundown of the adventurers' progress in the Hunt for Lord Highfang...

The adventurers met up in the Sleeping Dragon Inn to discuss their findings and plan their next moves. When sensitive information was about to be shared, the archmage Crideas Bane suggested moving the discussions to his private sanctum, shielded by powerful magic from scrying efforts of potential foes.

Crideas revealed that his scrying had shown Lord Highfang teleported to the town of Watertown (in Shentil), where he magically coerced a local farmer into activating the nearby Wanderer's Portal (so that others' scrying could not determine the destination). The undead drow then killed the farmer and left.

The adventurers went to the remote portal and discovered the now-skeletal remains of the slain farmer. The necromantic power of the demon-blooded Valencia was able to bring unlife to the farmer's bones, and the poor soul was more than happy to tell his tale. Afterward, the combined power of several of the company of adventurers was able to restore the farmer's life, and he left, eager to live his second chance at life tending his fields, dealing with a small overweight goat, and getting over his nervousness to start courting a local woman named Sally.

The farmer's recounting of events and extra scrying by archmage Bane led the group to the city of Macedone. Several ample bribes to a young entrepreneur nicknamed Peek (who watches everyone that passes through the gates to the city and reports what he sees to anyone that pays him), and the group learned that "an elf in red and black armor" had gone to the Docks in search of someone.

The adventurers scoured the docks looking for clues, investigated the entirety of Fishhead's Inn and Tavern, spoke with the elf known as Bob (and thanks to Valencia's charms, didn't even have to bribe the man), and were directed into the sewers. After spending too much time in such a foul place, the party did learn from a bandit that that elf in red and black armor has passed through, down into the Pit, only to return a while later to the surface.

{ It was at this point that The Amethyst Dragon had to leave the game to do that "feed his kids" and "put them to bed" thing. Due to family obligations, next game session will be be July 5, 3pm-7pm (Arizona time, 6pm-10pm Eastern). }
