Alignment Shifts
Currently stumbling around Calithia on the trail of some green cloaked SOC (son of a camel) I am constantly beset upon by Halfling bandits when I venture into the Copper Quarter Ward. (oops!)
Naturally I do my best to dispose of the pesky little blighter's, as I do with all those who would wish harm upon such a lovable cuddly Dwarf.
However, the mere fact that I kill those who attack me first has switched my alignment to NG which precludes me from advancing as a Dwarven Defender. (me ma would be heart broken)
At one point I did stumble upon a place where I can pay to get “re-Aligned” so I know that option exists.
I did receive messages stating that continuing my current actions would have this affect but bandits need killing.
What could be more law abiding than helping folks (at home or abroad) rid their fair city of crime?
Up Yer Tankard !

Re: Alignment Shifts
Ah, more bandits without the proper alignment. I've switched them to Neutral Evil in the toolset, so next time I update the game this will change. Won't help much on law/chaos scale, but will on good/evil scale.
Here's a quick look at evil alignments:
law evil: nasty, selfish, mean, but may have a sense of honor or follow laws out of fear or respect for order
neutral evil: purely selfish without regard to others or to rules
chaotic evil: mean, nasty, and destructive, just to be that way

Re: Alignment Shifts
Hmm... still a little confused, what does make the Lawful - Neutral - Chaotic balance shift?
As a Dwarven Defender my only alignment concern is staying lawful.
I walked all the way to Calithia from Valorian's Vale (well ran for my life, the half dozen Bulettes chasing me at one point was memorable) and I did see the alignment shift warning a few times along the way, I think it was probably with more bandits (mages/rogues).
Just trying to understand the world a bit better.

Geez... even the crazed, angry dwarf knew to run from those...
My frail, foolish posterior tried to stand and fight... and I hadnt even drank any ale at all...
Maybe if I start drinking more, I will get smarter... and see the Great Hall less often...

If you are lawful:Myd-Nyt wrote:Hmm... still a little confused, what does make the Lawful - Neutral - Chaotic balance shift?
kill a lawful creature --> a shift toward chaotic
kill a neutral creature --> smaller shift toward chaotic
kill a chaotic creature --> shift toward lawful
If you are neutral:
kill a lawful creature --> small shift toward chaotic
kill a neutral creature --> smaller shift toward chaotic
kill a chaotic creature --> small shift toward lawful
If you are chaotic:
kill a lawful creature --> shift toward chaotic
kill a neutral creature --> smaller shift toward chaotic
kill a chaotic creature -- smaller shift toward lawful
Re: Alignment Shifts
So. . . my alignment will constantly be changing (even though I only want to kill “bad folks”) because I have no control over who is hostile towards me?
I can hear that alignment changing critter cackling with glee.

Re: Alignment Shifts
Yeah, its funky...
Hostility is governed by factions... and alignment doesnt seem to have
much to do with factions directly.
Myself, I would be happy if killing a 'hostile' neutral wasnt an alignment hit... but it doesnt seem to be able to differentiate...
I wish there was a way to tie the alignment shifts in with the factions... that way killing a 'hostile' could be exempt from alignment shift...

Re: Alignment Shifts
There is another possibility (me thinks) that has some appeal to an inebriated, goldless, half crazed patron of Torgat.
Identify a group of Chaotic critters and then just slaughter me way back to Lawfulness.
Hmm... wonder how lawful the Valorian Graveyard inhabitants are...
Next thing ya know it'll be the latest rage with the nobles.
All across the land notice boards will have announcements tacked to them proclaiming -
“Alignment Shifting Party - tonight at the old graveyard.” (BYOB - bring your own blessings)

Re: Alignment Shifts
I've been getting some Chaotic hits while hunting undead and some goblins. It's not too big of a deal because soon I'll get a Lawful shift to off set it.
Re: Alignment Shifts
If a lot of what you're killing is neutral in regards to law/chaos, it will eventually add up to a shift toward chaotic...not as fast as killing lawful beings, but it does happen.
