Limited computer time for a few days...

Hi folks.

Just letting everyone know my computer time is going to be limited for a few days. I'm going to be catching up on sleep, then on Friday morning I'm going to have surgery, after which I'll be resting my eyes for a couple of days...and shopping for real sunglasses, since I'll be able to see without glasses (which I've been using for over 21 years now).

Three cheers for LASIK!

Grats, good luck, and all that jazz. I've heard great things about that LASIK stuff, like vision ending up at 20/10 (which is being able to see twice as well as normal for all you non-glasses peoples ).

I hope and am sure the surgery goes well. And the glasses that come with it are totally awesome.

Surgery put off for a week.

LASIK done. I can see better than before. Can't read for crap until my eyes adjust. Maybe sometime tomorrow. Yes, I can type without looking at the keys.

Day of surgery:

Valium was my friend...it's the only thing that made me calm enough for them to mess with my eyes. And it made me realize one of the reasons I don't drink alcohol (I like my coordination intact).

A little bit of prep work (plugging up tear ducts, numbing eyedrops). Then the surgery. I was really hoping one of the side effects of the Valium would happen, but it hasn't (yes, I would prefer not to remember the procedure).

Left the place with better vision, but it was "foggy", as if there were a film over my eyes. Slight improvement over the rest of the day.

Day after surgery:

Woke up this morning. After eye drops (which I have to take every 30 minutes), I can see much better. I'm not really supposed to be using the computer yet. I'd say my distance vision is already as good as it was when I got glasses back in 6th grade. Close-up vision is improving to the point I can now read text on a piece of paper.

Overall summary: Damn...a guy that can't stand anything touching his eyes, and can't stand eyedrops...just had his corneas cut open, partially vaporized with a laser, closed up, and hopefully won't have to wear any prescription glasses until he needs reading glasses in his late forties.

I'm going out Monday to buy some real sunglasses.

Me just glad that I don't need LASIK or glasses... yet

My vision isn't fully back to what is was with glasses yet (that can take weeks), and I have to use eyedrops constantly for a while, but it was so worth the $2000 and the enduring the surgery while conscious.

And I invested in a pair of real sunglasses. I would have gone with a pair of Ray-bans, but I have young kids, so I went with something more sturdy. The Amethyst Dragon be sportin' the Oakleys.

Congrats on the eye-surgery , it's something I'll never have the courage to do... and plus .. I'm actually rather fond of my specs!

Valium (10 mg) was my friend for an hour or so that day...

Grats ! Good to hear all went well. I have been thinking about saving my pennies for the surgery myself. Some days I hate glasses.

That was a good one, Elhanan! As far as children on the forum ... aren't we all? I dunno 'bout y'all, but some days I have the mental acumen of a 10-year-old. (So my son is never short on a playmate!)
