Hi, y'all!

Do you remember this awesome thread: "Storing Logs" ? I used it to get my logs set up on my laptop, and they worked wonderfully! Since my laptop fried, however, I have been unable to replicate success with the logs.

Here's what I have:

:: nwn.bat
:: used to store the nwn client logs before they get overwritten by nwn
::
:: double colon used for comments
::
@echo off

:: this is for the timestamping
for /f "tokens=1-4 delims=/ " %%i in ("%date%") do (
set day=%%i
set month=%%j
set year=%%k
)

:: find path and current log
c:
cd \NeverwinterNights\Nwn\logs

:: denotes new session (needed if starting new sessions on same day)
Echo ***************************************************** >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt
Echo ********************* NEW SESSION ******************* >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt
Echo ***************************************************** >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt
Echo
:: Gives a space and prints date and time, its out of sync here
:: but matches in the saved logs due to the length of date and time
Echo ***************************************************** >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt
Echo ****** %date% **************** %time% ****** >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt
Echo ***************************************************** >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt

:: below copies previous log
type nwclientLog1.txt >> LogFiles_%day%-%month%-%year%.txt

:: change below to 'nwtoolset.exe' for nwn toolset, or 'nwmain.exe' for direct to nwn
:: default opens launcher, my preference (also shuts down this .bat)
cd ..
START nwn.exe && EXIT

And here's what it gets me:

*****************************************************
********************* NEW SESSION *******************
*****************************************************
*****************************************************
****** Wed 06/24/2009 **************** 20:09:11.78 ******
*****************************************************
*****************************************************
********************* NEW SESSION *******************
*****************************************************
*****************************************************
****** Wed 06/24/2009 **************** 20:09:20.96 ******
*****************************************************

I'm not as computer savvy as I'd like to think, so if anyone sees a problem with the text inside the .bat file, please please please let me know! I miss having the logs to peruse through, certainly for the entertainment value, but also if there's a problem of some sort - logs are priceless, and I miss them!

Help, please!

Look for the "Gnomish Log Rotator" on the vault. It's an external program, not as small and elegant as the BAT method, but it accomplishes the same thing with little fussing.

I need a new hard drive..... with more space.... cuz I am looking at barely 12 gigs free on 3 of my partitions... and starting to worry Razz

If I store enough logs eventually they will equal megs, and over time that cna become gigs.... my email archives are over 2 gigs at this point... but only cuz I save everything, and have been doing so for almost 8 years... so I can probably handle some chat logs.... I just wonder how long it will take fighting beholders before they start to get space comsumptive.

Hehe, beholders is the reason I stopped keeping logs myself.

It's been a while since I used the GLR, but I *think* it has options to automatically edit out combat log info and leave just chatlogging/server message logging in.

This problem is likely related to where the log file is stored and what the log file is called in your new setup....
.. providing its still opening the launcher, the .bat scripting seems to be working fine.. (its stamping the time stamps correctly)..

Try changing the first "cd \NeverwinterNights\Nwn\logs" to your new NWN directory address, or change "type nwclientLog1.txt" to "type xxxclientxxlogxxname.txt" (its this one that copies/stores the previous log)..

Failing that is the NWN.ini file set up for log storing in the first place?..

Or try the GNL that MJ suggested....
