Partially Used: Binding Points

Howdy!

I am new here, so this may have already been done in some form or recommended, but I noticed that the Inn within the Vale may be the only starting place upon Server Reset.

Perhaps there could be binding points at various locations around the server that could be used as alternate points of origin? The various altars would seem to offer a variety of choices. As these points must be accessed at least once in the game to be remembered, this could be used to have characters start close to where they were before the Server was reset, but restrict all newbies to the Inn. And perhaps it could serve in other funtions as well, like offer options to point of origin. Etc.

I am Techless, so I am uncertain of the possibilities or problems involved.

Sounds like a neat idea actually.

Especially if your character doesn't have access to teleportation, and you make your way to some point, have to log off and come back and there's been a server reset... Would be nice to pick up the adventure from the town nearest your last location, should you have marked the location.

ALso, nice for characters who's "home towns" are not Valorian's Vale.

I have thought about this too - one of the biggest server cons for me has always been that I cannot pick up my adventures from where I left off (only with PCs lucky enough to have some form of teleportation available to them) - I am usually on a limited time budget, and a server reset usually kills any kind of direct progress I've made.

And with what MannyJabrielle said, many of my PCs are from Macedone, or the Underdark, or various other places. That could def. help out the RP element.

I thought about suggesting this a long time ago - I played on the Avlis PW before coming here, and it's a common feature there - but wondered whether had deliberately chosen to have things the way they are.

Back when I started, the server was being reset so often, I'd say 90-95% of log-ins were to the Astral Conjunction, and it became a bit of a game to see how far I could get from the Vale with each log-in. Made me explore far and wide, however!

After the next module update, a new item is being added to random drops and some random merchant inventories (Binding Boots of Bellaruskima). You can put them on and use their "unique power" up to 3 times a day. Each use will "bind" your current location to the boots (as long as it not a teleport-blocked area). Put them on again while in the Vale, go to the Elf Grove, and walk up the small hill over the cave to to automatically get jumped back to the bound location (the returning can be done any number of times).

Not as versatile as normal teleportation, but can quickly get you from the Vale to most places in Aenea.

Oh, and it's really only one "bind point" per PC, not per pair of boots. I just think boots are a good item for basing "travel magic" on.

The only thing that concerns me is availability, but we shall see how it works out. If it seems lacking, we will see some improvement suggestions, I am sure.

Perhaps the altars of the god of Travels themselves could be used as binding stones? Only the most recent one could be used, or possibly added to a list of options for actual worshippers?

Thats a pretty decent idea...
