Underappreciated Items
Looking at a few of the posts around here, it seems some items may need some more representation within the game.
So, post your thoughts here...in terms of variety:
What kinds of weapons do you think there should be more of?
What kinds of armor/clothing do you think there should be more of?

Re: Underappreciated Items
For weapons, I'd say battle axes I would say as well... Daggers/shortswords of variety would be nice as well, maybe a few more exotics like scythes, the double-sided weapons and sickles.
Clothing not necessarily geared towards wizards/sorcs/monks
Musical instruments with some bardic goodies (holdable ones as well as inventory ones like those found in the default campaigns).

Keep the thoughts coming, folks. This is already a good list for me to work from.
Re: Underappreciated Items
Halberds and heavy flails have always been personal favorites of mine, and they almost always seem to get skipped over.
Also, maybe the sap, and some of those "monk-y" cep weapons (sai, wind and fire wheel, etc.), since there are non-magical versions for sale in a few places but they're not available as custom items.

Hmmm....slings....
Like these, which will make their appearance with the next updates hak?
And yes, that is a bullet/stone you see in those now. What good is an empty sling?

Re: Underappreciated Items
Will that affect all sling models, such as the Three Trolls one, or will it be for a specific sling?

Re: Underappreciated Items
I'd like to see more of the 'magical energy' appearances for shields, with appropriate weight reduction, for a range of shield sizes, and a range of properties - dim light, +3 to +5, a few miscellaneous...
or - a way of customising appearances for those without sufficient ranks in crafting. I'd pay the full gp value of an item to have a customised appearance...

Re: Underappreciated Items
There is a place to get a crafting skill boost. In the deserted village of He'Levan, there's a magical Tailor who will give you a +10 boost to your skills for 2000gp. The duration is I think 3 minutes, plenty of time to change a shield, helm, or weapon appearance.

Tried that - doesn't seem to help - makes me think the appearance changing is looking at base ranks, not total skill; in any event, the Tailor was of no use to me (maybe my base crafting is too low to make a difference anyway - but if the intent is to allow appearance changing via this Tailor, why not make it happen via a conversation... e.g. pay X thousand gold, get 3 mins to make any changes you like)

Re: Underappreciated Items
Isn't this the way it already works? Or are you thinking more about the way the self-tailor shops work? Changing items via conversation, as opposed the the crafting radial menu?Calzier wrote:pay X thousand gold, get 3 mins to make any changes you like

I was thinking more like the tailor-shops, as at present this Tailor doesn't work for me (my guess is that it's improving the skill but not base ranks, so if you don't have enough base ranks, the crafting isn't possible. This is at least the feedback I'm getting.)

Re: Underappreciated Items
I believe you are right on the money. For the tailor (now bear in mind, the only one I've been to is the one in Macedone, so I don't know how the others will work), you need a base crafting skill of 3. So I'm guessing that anything below that won't work.Calzier wrote:...my guess is that it's improving the skill but not base ranks, so if you don't have enough base ranks, the crafting isn't possible. Re: Underappreciated Items
There's two types of crafting. Armor crafting and shield/weapon crafting. Armor appearance crafting is done at the self-help tailoring shops in Macedone, Tradeholm and I think Calithia.... those are the ones where you talk to the mannequin NPC and adjust armor apperance through a dialogue. The dialogue says you need 3 bade ranks of craft armor for it to work, but it works for my characters who have no points invested into craft armor.
The shield/weapon appearance crafting is done by the VC system, and requires a workshop (bluebeard's tower, the smithguild shops in various towns, or the Tailor in Le'Hevan). For shields, you need 15 craft armor (modified, not base). For weapons, I think it's either 15 or 18 modified. The tailor in Le'Hevan will give you a +10 boost for 3 minutes, so you will still need at least 5 (modified) in craft armor before his boosts. The skill requirements are a straight number, no DC rolls, so if your character sheet says 15 in craft armor, you can change your shield apperance.

I'm guessing the self-service tailor shops take Intelligence into account then, because I tried crafting Gog's armour at one point (no ranks, but wearing a helm that gave him +5 to craft skills) and got nothing

That might be it then. most of my characters have 10 or more intelligence. Oddly though, even the ones with 10 int and no craft armor skill have been able to use the mannequins... probably a very selective bug with that

Kukris
Kukris, not many about, or exotic weapons in general. Tried playing a warhammer and shield wielder but found few of either about. There are some cool weapons around (demonslayer, Bugsplatter etc.) which cannot be weapon focused. Any chance these could be altered to make this possible???

I wouldn't mind seeing Ability bonuses attached to other items similar to Rings of Intellect...maybe some bracers or headgear.
Ignoring ioun stones, Intelligence, Dexterity, and Strength have items that can be used in different slots (Headbands, Rings, Belts, Bracers) allowing some classes to boost their primary abilities more than other classes.
Heh....and for a Monk, a +5 AC Amulet vs a +6 Wis Amulet (in an AC sense) isn't a too hard of a choice.

Re: Underappreciated Items
There's two cloaks that boost wisdom (a +2 and a +4 wisdom boost respectively). Otherstats likewise have at least 2 types of items that provide various boosts... Each stat as one item that will range from +2 to +10 (the +8 and +10 versions being one-time quest rewards or so super rare in drop that I've yet to find one). Each stat also tends to also have a second item that grants a +2 or +4 bonus. There's certain creatures which tend to drop those secondary stat items with moderate frequency Another type tends to offer the wisdom cloak, although their drops cover a wise base, and you may go weeks without finding a wisdom cloak, and then one day find 5 in a row!
The one exception is charisma, which has several items that grant bonuses, but either requires a good/evil alightment, UMD skills to get past alignment restrictions, requires armor proficiencies, or martial weapon proficiencies, which kinda stinks for sorcs and bards... sorcs more so since they don't have UMD or free armor proficiencies. The +8 and greater cloaks, as well as the +2/+4 headband items for cha are so uber rare that I've yet to find one in a drop, but I've been assured that the headbands -are- in a drop somewhere.
